I have tried searching this here but with no luck...

I am in the market for a super short 10-22, my requirements are it must equal as close to 26" OAL and have a pistol grip stock.

My thoughts are a tapco stock and an 8.5" barrel, I think with the stock pinned fully open it should be very close to 26"

Has anyone made a gun like this or seen one like it?

I am after the shortest length possible when the rifle is shootable, ie not 26" after the stock has been folded or collapsed.

Forgive me if this is a rehash.

You mean like this?

you cant get 26" with a 8.5" barrel with normal length stock. the stock would be extra long. a factory 10/22 with a 12.5" barrel is just under 27". if you want to go 8.5 you need to add at least 2 or more inches to the stock or a decent size flash hider. not only it'd look weird. if i have 26" to play wtih. between more length of pull and barrel length . id rather have more barrel so i could reach out a bit farther.

this is 26.5" (without the flash hider) with a 12.5 inch barrel

Probably not the style you had in mind, but a pistol grip:

9" bbl, measures a little over 26.5" without the levang.

Slightly unrelated, on the topic of OAL, the buttplate/pad, included in measurement or no?

This one belongs to CGN member IanC ... Tapco Stock, 12.5" .920 Barrel, judging by the size of that scope, I would say OAL around 28"

I am also curious about the butt pad counting toward OAL if it is permanently attached, ie glue, screws, etc.

FYN what is that stock? It is pretty nice actually.

It's a boyds evo. I originally wanted to go with something a little more "tactical", but for a little shy of $100, I couldn't be happier.

Is that 28" collapsed?

If so by my math when the stock is open it would be around 32", so an 8.5" would be around 28" overall with the stock open.

My idea is that an 8.5" with the stock pinned open would be VERY close to 26" OAL. Can anyone with a tapco actually confirm this?

Trying to get the theory out of the way before I start buying bits and pieces. :D

Thanks again.

Yes that would be collapsed. If the barrel is any shorter, the forestock would be longer than the barrel. And just a reminder, the flash hider or muzzle brake does not add length to the barrel unless it is permanently attached IIRC.

I plan to cut the stock down to the 8.5" barrel IF the OAL works out to be 26"

I am not set on a tapco stock, I am just trying to build a 26" .22 rifle.

I want a rifle as short as legally possible, it will make it much easier to carry on the side of a pack.

This will be a "survival" gun for wilderness trips backpacking, canoeing, 4x4, etc. So smallest size and lightest weight is what I am after.

If I could get a 26" Papoose I would go that way instead. Seems 10-22 is the only gun you can "Lego" to meet my requirements...

That is possible too, is there a shorter stock that still has maybe a 12" or so length of pull?

I am open to possibilities, I have searched 10-22 images, sbr setups, etc. Just haven't found a setup that is 26" or so...

All the stocks I have seen all have fore stocks that measure 12" (1"-/+). So whichever you buy, you will still have to chop them down to fit a 8.5" barrel. For a lightweight shooter, I would go with a ruger compact oem stock with a dlask 12.5. You could get that under 30" for sure and still be light enough to tie to your back pack.
