26" too short for skeet?

Folks,

I see more and more 30" and 32" on Skeet field. Is 26" too short?

In what action; double barrel or pump/auto? 26" in the latter actions isn't too short.

I find 26" O/U too short for me, but a 26: auto is not bad.

28" and up auto is about my most comfortable gun to shoot with a 30" O/U a close second.

Not at all. At one time 26" was a standard length for skeet o/u and remains a good length for the short targets whether in a breaking gun or repeater.

A couple guys at my club think a 14" gun is too short and gripe endlessly about the noise.

Thanks for your reply. I been told the same thing as 26" is quite good for skeet but my question is why more and more ppl using 30" and 32"? Is that because they use the same gun for both trap and skeet?

As to the why..... My opinion is that it is like trying to decide which religion is better. They all have their benefits. Some people swear by one over the other. I say pick one that you are comfortable with (or can find).

I was in my club this evening. I shoot much better with my 26" Citori then the new AL 391. I think you are right, find a right gun fits me is the most important thing. Again, thanks for the help.

Trap has always favoured the longer barrels. In sporting the trend toward longer barrels reflects the game going to increasingly longer targets. Sporting clays was once a game for hunters to practice and was called "skeet in the woods." As the game evolved the targets got longer and trickier and long barrels followed. I like my 32" sporting gun for everything but wouldn't feel out of place on a skeet field with a 26" gun. My skeet semi-auto has a 25" barrel.

I think that many are using the longer tubes because they are using the same gun for sporting clays.
