260/25-06

Chronographed the Remington 120 gr. Cor Lokt factory load in a Weatherby MkV UltraLight 25-06 today.

Average velocity was 2919 fps out of the 24" tube.

I once chronographed IVI 7mm RM 150gr out of a 26" tube and it was under 2900fps :?

Hell, you can get more than that with a 160gr X bullet form a 24" barrel.

The only factory ammo that I have chronoed thqat actually lived up to its specs in a hutnign gun has been the 300WSM...

Unless you are loading 160 gr XLC's. 3150 average out of my Ruger M77 II. Cuts through moose like #### through a goose.

What load are you using? I don't have a new Barnes manual and that little piece of paper that comes in the XLC box isn't much good. :| I loaded some up with IMR 7828 and they clocked in at just over 2900fps, which was about 50fps under what the little paper told me. No pressure signs and .75" groups.

Teh 7RM is one of those cartridges that has weird pressure spikes, so the factory stuff, as well as the Manual data is loaded a little conservative.

If youare loadign 160gr X bullets a little over 2900fps, and it is going into .75 groups, then you may as well stop there.

You have agiant killer load. That load will SMOKE anything in NA. No need to lean on the load for extra velocity, I have seen a 160gr X bullet at 2900fps completely penetrate both shoudlers of a grizzly... :D

YAY!! :D

I don't have the charge since I sold the rifle last year to a gent in NB. I made room in my binder for 2 other rifles I'm loading for now but I still have the chronied velocities and I know I was using IMR7828 jammed in tight. No pressure sign. I wish I had some short cut then.

Heres the velocities from a 6 shot string, not quite averaging out to 3150 fps but 3 were above 3100 fps. I guess I exagerated.

3122
3107
3052
3103
3073
3062

The new Barnes manual lists 7 out of the 10 loads above 3000 fps so this is not a stretch for these bullets. They show a max charge of 69.0 gr of 7828. I think I was up to 62.0 but I'm not certain.

I love those XLC's!!!

I was at 68.0gr and the velocity was given at 2957fps on the little paper.

Sorry for the hijack.

My dad shot a moose with his 25-06 and I have one now so I am partial to them. I am almost certain however that I will get a 6.5mm in the future, but I think it will be a 6.5-06 or maybe a 6.5 WSM.

bigger is better

right?

I've never seen a re-barreled Model 88, that's kinda neat :D I like that stock. Always did like the M88 for the reason it had a one piece stock...

Kinda of like the lever action second cousin to my 260
