Is there an echo in here or what?! Seems like there are a lot of 260s popping up in time for spring. Thought I would share my first precision rifle. Most of this kit was picked up from on here so I can't take too much credit.

It is a Stevens model 200 action to begin with.

Has a Shilen Select Match SS barrel in 260 Remington with a new heavy precision ground recoil lug

Wears a HS Precision 'Tactical' style stock that I find amazingly comfortable with a great palm swell. Features aluminum bedding block as well. Going to shoot first then see if I want to glass bed it.

Trigger is a Rifle Basix Sav 1 adjustable from 14oz- 3lbs, very nice and crisp with a lot of different adjustment in it.

EGW bolt knob I installed myself, felt pretty good about tackling the machining with my Dremel and dye set! got it nice a straight and it fit like a glove. scuffed up the handle portion a bit, so I will be either having it powder coated or paint it myself (hence the tape)

El cheapo bipod, but it seems okay for now, most likely going to shoot off bags anyways.

Scope is just a run of the mil Bushnell 3200 Tactical, Looking to upgrade this soon with some better glass, on the hunt for a NXS 3.5-15 or a 5.5-22. But until then I will use this a not try fall short of my goal.

Have a full set of Lapua brass, H4350, Honrady custom comp dies, Lapua 123gr Scenars, Nosler 140gr competitions bullets.

Planning to start some loading this weekend and perhaps squeeze off a few shots.

I am really on the hunt for a case that is pretty unidentifiable for taking rifle into and out of apartment complex and such as well.

Anyways, here are a couple pictures: Range report to follow

RANGE REPORT*********

Well I took it out to the range today to shoot some ladder tests and I think I have honed in on what loads to perhaps develop a little further but I will post them for you to interpret for yourselves. I started over with virgin 260 Lapua brass and trying to develop a load for the 123 gr Scenar.

To begin this is the chrony data plotted vs charge weight. I chose to go form max to min in 0.3 grain increments. I also weighed out each charge on a very accurate lab micro balance down to for example 43.123 grains. It was slow but I don't mind doing it. I shot the ladder test at 300m and repeated it with another round. However I think the chrony started messing up a little.

I wasn't able to determine the 8th 9th and 10th shot in the string.
To me it looks like I may try at 42.2-42.5 grain range and maybe something else up near the 43.5 grain mark.

Anyways, I had fun loading up some 140gr Nosler Competition HPBT bullets as well with 41 grains even to do some grouping and it did pretty well @100m. I think I may actually try and play a little more with this combo and see!

Cheers and thanks for all the advice along the way! Now to get some new glass and practice practice practice!

Awesome Build!

Have you thought of going with a Harris Swivel Bipod? It's a great feature to have if you intend to shoot off a range.

If your on the hunt for Nightforce P&D just got a big shipment of them in :)

Yes I have considered it! It will be one more thing in the long list of items to get as funds allow. 1) Case 2)New Glass 3) Better Bipod is what I am thinking

Find a small hard case that fits your rifle, then put in an extra long goalie bag or snow board bag. The latter usually is padded too.

You can skip the hard case if you want but you lose the protection.

That sounds like a good idea, I like the idea of a hardcase, but I also wanted to find a way to make it no look like a gun case. Maybe I should get a whack load of musical instrument stickers on the outside!

nice rifle

hey I'm using the snowboard bag idea :D, but might look weird in the summer time

I use an old kit bag or hockey bag to disguise my case(s) and a plastic tool box for my ammo. I have to...let's just say there's alot of traffic in and out of one of my neighbours.

:D .260 Rem is on my short list.

Did Mystic put this together?

Cost of your build?

He helped me and provided me with alot of guidance along the way but this was all from cgn EE. Minus the scope as I already had it, my total cost to date is 899.72$. Just keep your eyes peeled. Occasionally someone sells something on there for less than new asking price! :p

Very nice. Slightly jealous. Good example of a low cost quality build.
