Here's the thing: Lf rifle for deer hunting Will be used under 300 yards.
I reload so ammo isnt a big deal. What I want to know is what of the 2 you chose and does the 308 will take down the deer more easiliy than the 260?
Question here is energy and Trajectory
Let me know. No other choice of caliber.

I don't see an issue with either for deer.
Both on the table to pick from and both equivalent, eye'd go for the 30 caliber.
Why?
Just like the chambering.
Looky.

I have both, and both will do what you want them to. Its just personal preference after that. The trajectory and energy is practically the same with mid weight bullets for both.

Same rifle?

If it is it doesn't matter , as long as it fits you and is comfortable.Everybody gets caught up on chambering and size and power. If you hit the animal, the projectile makes a hole, the animal dies, this is of course if you hit your target.

The difference between these two is at the butt of the rifle, the .260 will have a bit less recoil. As for the other end of the rifle it doesn't matter, either one will do just fine.

For me it's a 50/50 split on choice.I would take either.

Where you are matters.
The only difference is that the .260 ammo may be more difficult to find in small places. .308 is everywhere.

I have a 6.5 x 55 which is close to 260 and it is much more pleasant to
shoot than 300 Savage which is close to 308.

But 308 will be cheaper (sales and such) and easier to find.

For deer samething. Since you reload i might go with the 260 that it might be a varmit rifle with 85g bullet. I have both but i have not tried the 260 as a varmit rifle yet.

Location doesn't matter. Anywhere there is a rifle season for deer, he can use either. And as stated, he reloads, so doesn't care about ammo availability.

I've owned 2 different 260's and now a 6.5 swede and one 308.

All three were my primary deer rifles, all three whack and stack deer in efficient easy fashion. I've killed at leasst 15 deer with the 4 rifles in question and none took a second shot, most dropped where they stood.

I like 125/129/130 gr bullets in the 260 and 150/165 in the 308.

I think the 308 case (in any of these options including th 7-08) is the perfect deer round.

That's my opinion to. 260Rem in the bush? I don't think so....

Huh? Why not?

260 gets my vote, by a big margin.

The 260 (0.264") has a better BC too.

Depending on where you are, the 260 may have more versatility (especially in S. Ont. where there is a caliber restriction of 0.277" max).

The 260 is a wicked varmint and deer cartridge.

Good luck with your decision - SD.

Go with the .308, the ammo's available everywhere and if you ever decide to get into anything bigger or meaner than deer you can easily go up a to a larger grain bullet and drop anything in north america.
