If elk or moose is on the list, I'd say 7-08. (not necesarely recommended though)
If deer-only, you can go with the 6.5

Higher BC in the 6.5 bullet I'd bet.
Animals would not know the difference either!
The 6.5/308 wildcat has been used as a steel rifle cartridge for many years also.
