A buddy and I are sitting in deer camp discussing the 260 Rem. So in the hands of a capable shooter with a good bullet like a Nosler Partition or ? Is it enough gun for a swamp donkey ?

I know there are larger or better ect. I don't want to get into the virtues of every other caliber , just your thoughts on the 260 for a moose.

Thanks

The 260 is a modern version of the 6.5x55 Swede - which has been killing moose for over 100 years. I have seen the 160gr Hornady round nose used. Good expansion and penetration.

I would use it without hestitation. The fact that it is accurate and does not kick hard probably means better shop palcement, on average, and that is about 90% of what determines results.

Thanks for the confirmation. Your replies back up my thoughts but my buddy believes it's too small.
Presently we both have 35 Whelans but I just acquired a 260 and am thinking I may sell the big fella. I don't moose hunt much anyway.

Thanks again
Rocco

My daughter shot her first moose a couple years ago with a 6.5x55 shooting a 120 gr. barnes bullet. One well placed shot was all it took. http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=290738

I'll be the stick in the mud. If a 260 was all I had (and I do have one), I'd use it. And I agree that with proper shot placement it wouldn't be an issue. But when that once in a lifetime 60 incher is playing coy in the brush, it is certainly nice to be packing something that launches a big, fat, hedge trimmer of a projectile. The Whelen gets my vote.
