so its time for a new barrel thinking 1/8 twist mid weight heres my issue....I really want a 20" barrel and 22"is the max i would go, and plan on shoot 139gr pills out of it

what powders would give me the best speed? I do use IMR 4895 in a short barreled 308 with awesome results.

My own 260 rem likes H4350. It's a 1 in 9" twist, and it produces 2760fps with the 142gr Matchking out of a 26" barrel. Surprisingly it shoots sub 1/2moa with a twist that is considered slow for this bullet weight.

I had a 9 twist 20", but never had luck with anything over 123 SMK's in it. Im sure they would have worked but 95-123 grain bullets using H4350 was what I focused on mostly.

Anything in the H4350 to H4831SC burn range.

There are now a bunch.

If mag feeding, you'll have to keep an eye on load density and may need to go with short grain/ball powder for max capacity.

Enjoy...

Using 130gr Barnes TSX and 40gr RL-19 out of a Cooper produced my best results so far. Not the fastest, but sure accurate for a hunting round. Used Lapua brass, and Federal 210M primers.

Lots of good suggestions above, but any powder that gives max velocity in a 26" barrel will also give max velocity in a 20" barrel. Keep that in mind. :)

120tsx were working good for me in my 16.5" barrel ruger compact. not sure on the velocity, but only use it in the thick stuff, so max 75yard shots.

120tsx BT 43.5gr IMR4350

In my Ruger compact with 120gr Speer or TSX's I use H4350 and W760 respectively. Out of the short 16.5" barrel 2700fps is easily reached.

In my 24" barrel 260AI I wasn't able to get the speeds I was looking for with the slower powders like H4831, just don't think I had enough barrel length to take advantage of the powder. However H4350 and W760 again produced great results. 140gr class of bullets could be pushed over 2900FPS (AI version safe in my rifle) quite easily. 120gr class are well over 3000fps.

If I had a 20" or 22" barrel I would be looking to those powders to get me the most velocity out of the shorter barrel.

There are a good number of powder/bullet combinations ,some already mentioned, for the 260 and 260AI.
I would suggest in addition to those mentioned to try RL17 & 139 Laps
It likes being "hotter" loaded but be careful as it will not show pressure til you are near
too hot. You'll see group and SD close up real nice when you reach that node.
I prefer CCI BR with this powder over Fed's.

well going 22" and hoping to get 2900 with the 130 Berger VLD Think I can get that?

My sako is 22 7/16" barrel I believe. I shoot the 130 VLD's and get around 2800fps.
Lapua Brass, Varget powder (One load I can think of off hand)
Loaded to 2.900" OAL, that is the absolute max I can get into the magazine.

Jamie, I think you should be able to come very close to 2900 with the 130`s. 2900 may be achievable, but you may have to go a little high on pressure. I was able to get 2950 out of them in my AI, with lightly above max standard .260 loads, but that was from a 24" barrel.
