260 Rem vs 6.5x47L - what would you do?

hardly required. Nobody told this moose that the 127gr LRX was loaded to 2.8" OAL

Sweet hair. I didn't know they made the LRX back in '84.

I see it now. Cool! :)

It's actually a great pic. At that age I was a little punk ne'er–do–well not doing anything nearly that cool.

Yep..... I was up to no good with my cooey 60 and catching 60 rock bass to every brook trout in the creek..... (still pretending I was trout fishing) and reading about hunts like that in outdoor life ......

I was just pickin'....... I don't dare even think to look back at my hair and clothing styles of the past....

I had a 6.5x47 built and I'm very happy with it. Very accurate, extremely long brass life, ~2900 fps with the 129 long range accubond/ 130 Berger/127 lrx. It's a good one.

As I am so old and semi retired I don't care to buy any more reamers at this stage...

But I was talking to a customer who I have built a couple of 6.5 x 47 Lapuas for today. I had seen a video of his elk hunt where he bagged a beauty at 440 yards last year. Two shots less than 2 seconds apart... side by side through the lungs... about an inch apart. Today he was telling me of a huge Mule deer he shot recently at 880 yards.

The bullet performance at 880 yards was not great, it didn't expand that well (130 grain). It took one through the chest and when it looked like it might head for some timber he shot again. Bullet flight was something like 1.3 seconds and after he shot the deer took a couple of steps and he hit in a hind leg. He followed that with a neck shot. The bullet did not cause any blood shot meat... passed through. He said he wouldn't shoot game any more beyond 600 yards with that combination. Interesting to note he ranged the distance to a rock that was in the area of a dozen does and this buck... it was dead calm and he took one shot at the rock and nailed it... the deer really took very little notice with this 'sighter'. They took a lot more notice when the buck was hit and got a bit antsy.

The little Lapua is a very accurate killer with excellent brass life.

But the .260 Rem is probably a better all around hunting round...

The "rock" trick is done often. But it rarely gets talked about. Rocks don't have the attitude move by themselves though.

I like my 260, plenty of magazine room(I'm loaded @ 2.920) and still mag room left. Shoots 120 NBT well, from 44.4-47.1 H4350 never over 1" during development and never over 1" with Nosler 129 AB LR from 42 - 44.4 H4350. Stock Savage Mod 10

I forgot to update this thread...I went with the .260 Rem. Guntech did a great job on the build. I went with a 24" barrel to start, using a #3 contour Shilen in an 8" twist. I haven't been home much in the last few weeks but might get it out tomorrow to start the break in process.

I like the 6.5X47 and just built my second one. How many guys are using the 127LRX? How far off the lands do you run it? Does this bullet kill well from 10 yds out to 500 yds? I have never shot Barnes before and have a box of the 127 LRX but I am a little hesitant to try them.
