I have a 260AI and my hunting buddy shoots a 7-08. It seems like he has a greater choice of bullets but other than that they appear identical in terms of hunting performance. Both seem to be limited by case capacity and long seating depths caused by longer high BC bullets in a short action. Get a 7 rem mag and have it all. Including more recoil.

I have both. I think the 260 is a bit more flexible for smaller critters.

The 140 or 160 gr has lots of penetration on moose.

I also have a 260 Improved, which adds some power, if you are inclined that way.

I have no complaints about the 7-08. The two are almost the same.

.260 Rem. vs. 7mm/08

Brass for the 7mm/08 can be formed from it's parent cartridge, the .308 Win. The 7mm family offers a vast variety of bullets from all leading manufacturers..
Definitely go with the 7mm/08.

I've had a couple of 260's, loved them both one of them I still cry about selling it occasionally. I now own a 6.5x55 loaded to 260 velocities, great combo.

The 7-08 I've never owned but I think there is less difference here than the ever re-occuring debate whether 270 is better than the 30-06.

Blargon has a bunch of 7/08 brass coming this way. I might neck it down to .277" and really make it awesome. ;)

Yeah, then you can give it a cool name like 6.8mm-08... :p
