Had a disappointing morning with my new Tikka t3x 260. Was hoping to drive these 140AB to 2700fps. I ran H4831sc up to 47gr and couldn't get past 2550fps.

What are you guys using to drive them faster?

Nosler #9 Manual lists 8 powders, including H4831SC, that they got 2784 to 2838 with 140 grain Accubond from 24" Wiseman barrel - 1-9" twist. Nosler cases. Rem 9 1/2 primers. Page 284. I do not own a 260 Rem rifle - I have never loaded for one.

FYI - they list 46.0 grains as Max for H4831SC at 2769 fps - 101% load density.

Yes, Nosler and Hodgdon both list 46gr as max, Lyman list 46.7 as max for the 142gr. Started at 44 and worked up to 47, no signs of pressure but no increase in velocity between 46 to 47gr. Rifle is a 1/8 twist 22" barrel.

manuals max loads are only guide lines every rifle max will be different
i would settle for 2650ish for a velocity as a min
reloaded 17,19 22 may be a option
Yes - I agree - I think most all manual recipes are actually reports of what they got, with the components they used, under pressure tested conditions. I do not read most manuals to be a "guarantee" of results - but more a report of what they got, with their stuff.

keep going carefully. had the same thing happen to me with a 7mm magnum. Fps just stalled. kept going up with powder and off she went. was using 4831sc as well. starting hitting pressure slight signs and backed off.

Not sure if there will be enough room in the case to go to much further, she's pretty crunchy at 47gr.

I have a 260 and a 6.5 creed, they both are less than 2600 with imr 4831 or n160 and 140 grain bullets, my 308 shoots flatter past 300 with 165 grain bullets, my swede gets to the zone I want with comfort, even if it's not a lot faster

I have had the best accuracy, not necessarily the highest velocity using H4831sc in my .260 Remington.
45.0 grains of H4831sc with the Sierra 142 grain Match King produces 0.3 MOA groups for me.

View the Alliant Website for Reloder #16. It give's velocities you are trying to achieve. Currently, at this time, there is 4.5 pounds of Alliant Reloder #16 for sale on a popular Canadian buy, sell and trade site. Seller is from Barrie, Ontario.

H4831 isn't going to give good velocity, Try a faster burn rate powder like StaBALL 6.5, N555, RL16, RL17, Win760 for more velocity in the 260 Rem

RL16 or RL17 will give you 2700fps+ with appx 43 grains, over magnum primers, out of a 22 in bbl.

Less out of a shorter bbl and a bit more out of a longer bbl.

I can get 2700fps with H414, H100V, W748 and W760 as well.
