So I got my new .260rem barrel screwed on my action and I measured my AOL. Gave me a COAL of 2.808" touching the rifling using 140gr A-max. The bullet seems seated pretty deep inside the case (base of the shank about 0.185" lower then the base of the neck/shoulder junction) I was wondering what were your typical seating depth with the heavier target bullet for this caliber? Will I be loosing a lot of case capacity/velocity with the bullet seated that deep? Any impact on accuracy? Is it worth having my throat ream for this specific bullet/other long target bullet (bergers, sierras)?

PS I haven't shot the rifle yet since I don't have my stock (coming very soon!)

PPS This rig is build mainly for target shooting at long range (600-1200yd)

PPPS Mag length is not a big concern since Ill mostly be single feeding them
 
If single feed then optimize the bullet you plan to use by having the barrel throated to your bullet.

If you run it as is then you will need to reduce your loads a bit more to start. Berger vlds may seat out further and you may gain some boiler room. Chase the lands and you may find some longer barrel life with the reduced loads. The 260 is a sweetheart to shoot and the extra 100 fps gain may not be worth the extra cost. My 2c.
 
I had the same issue altho with a different bullet - new barrel and too short of freebore - took it to the smith and he took off .010 of rifling, putting me right in the sweet spot. Took 3 minutes.
 
I wouldn't sweat any of the details you mentioned. There are far more influential variables that affect muzzle velocity of a given projectile than an extra grain or two of capacity.
I agonized over every detail when choosing a chambering/reamer/barrel for my 6.5 (ultimately went with straight .260 cut with a custom reamer).
In the end the gun will choose its bullet and its node. Often this ends up being different that what your original intensions were.
Mine loves 130gr VLD's which is not the bullet I spec'd the reamer around. Theres no arguing with the results though.

Find your load and run it as is.
 
I shoot 139 gr Lapua Scenars in my .260 Remington. I seat them to 2.250" to the ogive. I have no clue what the COAL is though.
 
I just seat all my 108 and 139 grain Scenars to fit in the magazine (AICS). I'm not smart enough to be concerned with any of those numbers... Just keep it safe, and life is good. :)

140gr Amax & H4350
62,000PSI chamber pressure
2.8" OAL, 42.6grs ~ 2776 fps (24" brl)

2.975" OAL, 44.1grs ~ 2798 fps

I'd throat for 2.8", it's only going to grow longer as your throat erodes. My .02
