i have decided to get a "custom" rifle cobbled together.

i have a sa remington mountian rifle dm action

a bell and carlson carbalite stock

now all i need is to pick the barrel and chambering and find a smith[i have one i mind]

no small task now that i think of it

i have used the 260 and the 6.5x55 but not the 6.5x284

insight and suggestions would be great

thanks

nate

I'm not sure how the fat .284 case will feed out of a factory detach mag...And the mag length will likely leave you seating the bullets too deep to take advantage of the .284 case.

If you want more speed, you could do a .260AI

I am getting a 260ai built by guntech as we speak.Interesting round.

If I was going to build a 6.5-284 I would build it on a long action to allow me to seat heavy bullets long, while still being able to use the magazine. In a light weight, short action, short barreled hunting rifle, the .260 would be the better choice IMHO.

If I was going to go the 6.5/06 route, I would wildcat the wildcat, and base the cartridge on a .270 thus making use of the longer neck.

I'm having a 260 AI built right now by Corlane's. I pondered between the 260 and the 6.5x284 and the AI won.

The det. mag setup for the short action will leave your oal too short, bullets will eat up any extra powder cap. the 284 case has. The 260ai may or may not feed from this mag as well. They feed nice from the inline mags. I have some 6.5/284's on long actions and they shoot. 140's @ 3100+ and pretty accurate. Brux and Shilen barrels. Have a 260ai with a Kreiger sporter barrel that shoots as well. Always thought the plain old 260 looked, well, plain/old. Mark
