Bullets are starting to come in. I also had some generous members offer some brass for the experiment, thank you.

Thanks again to everyone that was able to donate a few bullets and some brass for the cause. I even got a generous donation of 50 brand new, unfired Lapua brass from Nova Scotia:eek: :dancingbanana:

Good Idea

I look forward to this. I have been using a pair of 6.5 Rem Mags for a long time. I found the 160 grain bullets expanded too easily limiting penetration.
The Sierra was the worst of the lot with the Hornady's a bit better but penetrating less well than the 140's.

I like the 140 Rem CL as a good standard bullet and the 125 and 140 Partition for reliable expansion with penetration. The 120 Sierra Spitz is a great expander putting caribou down like a sledge with chest hits but core separating too much for quartering shots.

Interesting to see your results. If I'd seen it earlier I could have sent you some 160 Hornady's and 160 Hawks. Personal postl me if there is still time.

The Hornady 160gr RN are back in the game along with some 140gr Nosler Partition and 85gr Sierra HP.

be intresting to see what the nosler BT does, I aced a 3x3 whitetail in the mellon with one last fall with a 264 XTR and the ballistic tip bullet never exited. right down the, and in the ear and recovered it in the skull of the other side.
I am intrested in your tests! Great idea guys

Here's the line up for the test. I've started reloading and waiting for more newspaper for the test. Be patient, it's coming! P.S. There in the same order as the most recent list.

Steve,
I'm very curious as to how the Partition 125's I've been using compare to the TSX 130's vs everything else.
I've got some of the 130 TSX's on the way for building up a "Bear Load" for this spring.
I for one eagerly await your results and Thanks again for ALL your efforts to put this together:cool:

It's coming. I just posted this in the other thread.

Just to give you guys a quick idea of how much newspaper I need. When I did my .35 Whelen test with 225gr and 250gr bullet, the penetration was between 17 to 20 inches. I was shooting 2 different bullet, 3 shot each (total 6) per newspaper bundle.

I'm hoping to be able to do 3 different bullet, 3 shot each (total 9) per bundle with the 6.5. So, lets say an average of 18" of penetration for the 6.5 bullets, 3 different bullet per bundle. Total of 24 different bullet to test divided by 3 different bullets per bundle, equals 8 bundles of 18". Total of
144" (12') of newspaper! .

I'm excited about the test as well, I'm almost there.

No Rush Steve.......You'll get er done in good time ! :)
And for the "Impatient" ones...................:slap:

I have been wondering how the test was coming or if it had been put on the back shelf. Now I understand!!

That is a LOT of newspaper! (plus you have to keep your new puppy in newspaper!)

Thanks you for your time and effort on these kinds of projects, it definitely helps people make good informed decisions. Hopefully people will choose the right bullet for their gun, and respect the limitations of it(no matter how high or how low).

Go to nice hotels and dumpster dive- They usually have a recycle bin for newspaper, and they often have paper still tightly wrapped in bundles.

That's what I use, the bundles are VERY tight, and VERY hard. (when dry)
