264 Win Mag or 270 WSM?

Never owned a 264Mag but have three 270WSM's...2 T3's ls models, 1 Sako m75ss -LOVE THEM. Great with 140gr Accubonds.

I would say the 264 would do the same, and if you like it as eagleye mentioned for nastolgic reason-go for it!

I was looking to acquire a 270 wsm to become a dedicated sheep rifle.

I too had always wanted a .264 though.

I ended up picking up a fairly rough H. Doumoulin chambered in 7mm mag - and sent it over to Ralph Martini in Cranbrook and he screwed on a .264WM shilen barrel.

It has become an absolute sweetheart - During initial load development I loaded 3 rounds in 3 bullet configurations (120 ttsx, 120 GMX and 140 barnes xlc) with 3 rounds and 4 powder charges.

All 36 rounds were inside 1.78 inches at 100 yards. It shoots very well.

Velocity for the 120 ttsx were 3358 and the 140 grain 3164. All loaded with IMR 7828.

I was leaning towards a 270 wsm pretty heavy - to be honest what really turned me was reading an article from one of the outdoor magazines where the writer was pushing the newest and greatest 270 wsm, and saying how the 264 was past due.

I think given the new powders and bullets - the 264 is just coming of age!

I have not owned a 264, but I have owned a 270 WSM for a little while now and I really like it. It is a, XBOLT II and it feeds very nicely, (I too have heard of feeding issues.) The first 3 loads I made up for it, (RL-19, 7828, 4895) all w/ 140 Accubonds were MOA w/ two of them eyeballed at about .75".

I have heard a guy talk about resizing problems with WSM cases and I actually just ran into a problem myself last night, but as yet I am unsure or the cause or whether its got anything to do with the type of cartridge.

All that said, I agree w/ 9.3mauser above. If its the 264 you want, than its the 264 you should get!

Since you've always wanted a .264, then that's what you should get. It's all about having fun, and it's a lot MORE fun using a rifle and cartridge you like, and you'll never be happy unless you at least try one.

I totally agree, get out there and buy one, time is a wastin, you should be burning up the range by now.Have fun!

264 is just way cooler and those 6.5 bullets are damn easy to reload. I have a 6.5x55 and really enjoy reloading for it. Since you have a 270 win already I vote for the 264.

You only want to talk about the two guns, so here goes... don't get either. With the guns you listed as in the safe already, you have duplication and triplication... spend the money on bullets, brass and powder and shoot what you have... unless you are interested in another platform? Are all your guns bolt actions? Do you have any quality single shots? How about a light weildy semi for the whitetail woods???

I have a .264 Win Mag [on Rem 700 action]. Great, accurate, fun, etc.

Personally, I'd go for the .270 WSM, in one of the new Win 70 Super Grades.

NAA.

.264 because of the fabulous selection of bullets in many weights by many manufacturers. Higher BC's on .264 bullets compared to .277 of same weight.
