Is anyone currently loading for this round? Have some 140gr Berger VLD and 130gr AB and thinking of giving Retumbo a try. Has anyone tried these bullets and what kind of results have you got for accuracy and velocity?
 
Haven`t tried the Berger bullets but my go to powder is H870, this is discontinued. I have a good supply stashed away. There are quite a few 264 mag owners here so it`s likely somebody has experience with the combo you list. I may have to try some of the Bergers next summer, always like to try new stuff.
 
I've loaded for it for years and I have found lately RL 25 to be outstanding with all weights over 100 gns, super velocities and tight groups. IMR 7828 used to be the powder but RL 25 is much better now.
 
Retumbo works well in the 264 Win Mag.
With the 140, start around 69 grains and work up carefully.
Mine gave stellar accuracy at 3200+ with 72.5 grains.

Retumbo eh ? Oh man I better pull up my socks and do some load work.
I've been getting by with H4831 in the 264 ever since my stash of H870 dried up.

I tried VLD Hunting 140 with Magnum.Started low and worked up to my SST load. It was a 150f/s slower with poor groupng. I haven't loaded any with a heavier charge ,yet. 1in9 Douglas.

In my 264, RL-25 gave very noticable increases in velocity in the 3-shot group.So much so,it made shooting a group risky. However, in my 6.5-06,it behaves very well.
 
Downwindtracker2 i don`t understand your comment on the group shooting being risky. Was it because of large variations in velocity, curious to hear your problem with that powder in the 264 mag.

No, the increases where such that I was getting into risky territory. Remember it's 264,and spiking is something you try to avoid.Others have posted the problem as well and in more detail.My 264 has a standard throat,so it's more forgiving than a SAAMI chambering.
 
I had pretty good luck with Retumbo in a 264, but was only running 69 or 70 grn charges on a 130 grain Accubond. It was out of an old pre 64 70 and ran 3300 FPS, pretty sure the throat had been modified to a normal configuration.
