270/08

After using the 270 so much an now so the 308 i rekon my perfect balance would be 270/08 but hardly worth it when factory 708 chamberings are available.


Anyone had or used a 27/08 before?

.260 rem, and 7-08 are so close that it would'nt make much difference. I'd take the .260/6.5mm over a .270 in an 08 sized case.
Unless you want to build a wildcat and put your name on it!

Fwiw i should of forementioned the 270 cal is minimum legal for sambar deer in Australia.

i reload so no problem there, would potentially rub the 30 cal out an depending if i went 27 or 7 the 270 gear may aswell not exist..or should it.

see the loads i use is 45 gr of 2208 and 130gr corelokt in win brass an fed primers. 24 inch tube at present soooo... i feed my 308 44gr of 2208 ...

Sounds like you need a 270/06 wildcat. Brass, dies etc. are all readily available.

Its not worth the $$ to 270 08 but thats exactly how my 270 win behaves an i love it.

Or be even more brazen and make it in a .277 version of it, we'll call it the .277-270/ought six-chester.

I have 2 .277-08AIs and love them , Its not about what's better as everyone likes to suggest. It's about flavour

I think it's a cool easy wildcat. If I wasn't such a 6.5 slut and didn't had three .260 Rem already, I'd probably build one just to be different. Would make a great deer rifle.

I recently switched from .270 to 7mm08 and you're 100% right, ammo isn't on the shelf at many stores.

Sounds to me like you need a 280 Rem and be done with it.............or if you have a great need to be different how about a 284 Win............Both superior to any 277 caliber cartridge with a .473 head dia.

Yep Marshal, but you got to remember he's "down under" and they probably haven't had the 284 resurgence that has happened here. Besides if "all the sheep" in Aus were shooting them there would be none anywhere else in the world !!! Tell me you wouldn't really defile that beautiful case design by necking it down to .277, would ya? 6.5 or 6mm I'm OK with, even 224, but never .277.................HERESY, I think flogging is still on the books for such Philistine acts..........
