Why is it that the .270 is never really mentioned in the precision shooting crowd? I hear alot about the 6.5's, 7mm's and of course the .30's but never much about the .277's, I dont even think Ive seen a heavy barreled .270

Cheers!!

of the major makers, only Sierra makes a match bullet

the 270 is a hunting caliber, but if you had some good match bullets, it could shine. so could a 27-284 with a 150 gr VLD

Yeah I see that Sierra only makes a 135 gr Match King. The 6.5 sure has a good selection.

There's nothing wrong with the cartridge itself, it's just a .30-06 necked down to .270 (?) but like they said, bullet selection. .308 and 30 cals are extremely popular because of ammunition component variety, modification options, and overall popularity.

How about taking a .30-06 and instead of necking it down to .270 neck it down to a 6.5. Now you have a 6.5-06, the very same cartridge Bob Pastor set the Iowa State 1000 yard Benchrest record with shooting a 2.626 inch group. :dancingbanana:

.270

my heavy bl .270 win shoots just great. i get 2 1/8 in five shot groups at 500 meter,s sst 23 in tube, tub lug ,speed lock pin and spring, bell&carlson stk. and i even had it fluted on a rem 700 and iv won more than my fair share of match,s. sniper and siloette. my last hunter bench rest i shot a 49 out of 50. useing bulk remington 130 gr bullets. the sad part was that after building this rifle remington started to make the sendero in .270 and ive shot agianst some of then and the shoot allmost as well. i never felt like i needed match bullets. but i still have some 135 gr sierra,s. my personal fav is the sierra 130 gr spbt sk#1820 . since retiring this rifle from hunting i had to find a .270 and i replaced it with a sako trgs in.270 i killed lots of nusance bear, deer, etc, etc,. i have much larger cal,s like 308 norm mag, trgs in 30-378 etc but they just are not the same . the nice part i like with the bears is no shoot throw,s so if its in the kitchen, liveing room or inside a store theres no more damage. just drag them out and throw them in the bear trap out side that they refuse to go into .
