270 as a Varminter

Tell him to buy it and smash the things. He has sheep to protect and the .270 is up to the task. Find a bullet it likes andsjust shoot the fricken things. They won't bounce off.

It goes bang, coyotes goes "poof", mission accomplished. While a smaller caliber would be ideal, the .270 is gonna do the job the same way (albeit with a larger exit wound). I often use my .308 on yotes and they don't ever seem to get back up.

If you only can have one gun a good 270 will take varmint to big game with out need of further expense for tooling if you reload and Do a good job on anything in NA except maybe Kodiak bear and if you are careful this will not be an issue as well

If you/he reloads you can always drop some 90gr bullets in there. Never tried them myself so I'm not sure how accurate they would be, but one thing for sure, they'd be damn fast!

A friend of mine used to hand load 90gr for gophers with great success. I'm sure anything from 90gr up will kill yotes dead.

This.

As it's been mentioned, yes, it's at the heavy end of the scale. However, it has also been said that this is a nuisance animal issue and thus has little requirement for keeping the pelts.

Find a load the gun likes and start plugging them.

Just for the record, I have a 22-250 for 'yotes. But I wasn't after the "do-all" aspect of the 270. I needed something that met the sub-.275 rule here in SW Ont,and had the muscle for 'yotes. When I need a deer/bear/moose rifle, I've got a variety of +.30 caliber firearms to choose from.
