Hey all

Not starting a "who makes the best set" or what one is crap, just want feed back with reloaders of this caliber. I'm starting .270 win now and in market for new or used set. I was thinking lee deluxe because I do not have the shell holder.

Thoughts?

Happy reloading

Redding Deluxe Die set and all will be good.

I have used all brands (ok, 8 brands) and like Redding dies the best, the worst set I ever had is a set of Lee 45-70 dies, which have been replaced with a set of excellent Redding dies.

.. Personally, ALL my Dies are RCBS! .. I'd suggest looking for a used set, and the the "shell Holder " is not pricey enough to make much differnce..... RCBS Customer Service is excellent, and the quality is consistantly good. In the unlikely event that spares/replacement parts are needed, in many cases RCBS will send what's needed at no cost. ( Pins readily available through most Firearm's Stores ). Very extensive line of accessories I might add! ..... David K

Over the years, probably 25 die sets, all RCBS.
Only 1 set of Lyman's ... they went to the junk pile.
Have looked at and admired Reddings, and believe what others have to say about them,
just haven't owned a set ...yet ! ;)

Almost all my dies are RCBS, but also have Redding, a couple of Lees, a few C-H, Eagle, and one set of Lyman, which in my opinion are the poorest design.

I tried some Lee dies and ended up throwing them in the garbage. I replaced them with Redding.

I have tried RCBS dies and they are OK. I prefer Redding dies. Most Lee stuff is junk fit for the scrap bin.

I'm a novice reloader and can see little difference in dies. I do prefer Redding except for the fact you can't punch a primer out without sizing the neck of the case. When I want to polish my brass I prefer the Lyman and RCBS dies. I can extend the decapping pin on the die and punch the primer without touching the case. The issue I have with Lee dies is the collet sizing die. I have only purchased one and had a tough time getting tension on the neck when seating the bullet. It just didn't seem to compress the brass enough to get proper neck tension.

That's my 2 cents. George

I have a very old RCBS 270win die and it works very well. All my RCBS dies are good, and the lone Redding set and neck sizer are fine as well. I only have two sets of Lyman dies, but only use the 357/38 set. Yes, I know nickel cases aren't supposed to be sized in a standard die, but even cleaned, I scratched the die set trying, which polished smooth as easy it scratched. I think that die resized to much, and a bit more polishing would result in an ideal resized size. (I should measure some test subjects to satisfy my curiosity) Someday I will find a replacement RCBS carbide set at a gunshow for cheap. Lucky enough to pick up one for the 44mag for $30 with different bullet seaters with the three dies. Five-ten dollars for the case holder extra...
