Hi I was just wondering if anyone could give me and idea of a good price on this rifle and possibly any info on them. I dont know too much about it. As I have not seen it yet? I just heard about it today from a guy at work who knows that I am into guns. A friend of his told him about it and asked him too tell a few people about it incase they might be interested.

The guy who told me about it has seen it and it looked to be in excellent condition. He did not know any model numbers or anything like that. He said that he didnt really pay too much attention because he is more of a Savage Lever guy himself. Apparently it doesn't have a scope and he wasn't sure if it was even drilled for mounts.
It is chambered in .270win and stamped JC Higgins, made in belgium, as stated in the title

thanks :)

It's probably a Model 50 JC Higgins. The model # will be stamped on top of the barrel about half way to the muzzle. The barrrels were supplied by Harrington and Richards and are chrome lined. The action is made by FN in Belgium. They were only chambered in .270 Win or .30-06.

The bottom metal is has a detachable floor plate similar to the military Mauser.

The safety is a standard FN-style wing on the left side of the bolt schroud.

The trigger assembly is a two-piece affair with the trigger pinned to the trigger-guard and the sear pinned to the receiver.

The one I've owned were drilled and tapped for standard Mauser bases although on some the rear holes were drilled with a .860" spacing. The only bases I've been able to find for this spacing are Talley. Some rifles came with appropriate bases.

These are excellent rifles on a par with pre-64 Winchester Model 70's. They are very accurate and well built.

As for value, I paid $350 for a barreled action and was happy.

Yes, it will have irons on it if it's a M50

It should say FN Belgium etc on the left receiver wall.

$350 is a good price depending on condition.

I Got It

Well I picked up this rifle on saturday and I must say its a very nice peice.
It is in very good condidtion with very little visible wear. Just a little on the sides of the barrel, probably from being slid into a gun case or under a bed.
And there is a couple marks next to the scope mounting holes I'm guessing from a slipped screw driver. But I think that these won't be able to be seen if a scope is reinstalled.

Other than that there is no nicks or dents in the stock and still has a near perfect finish. Although the stock is kind of plain and reminds me of my fathers old single shot cooey .22. Except for it has white line spacers under the butt plate and pistol grip cap. The barrel seems to be in very good condition. but looks more grey like most other rifle barrels on the inside. I had read that they were chrome lined and expected it to be shinier.

Whomever had this rifle before this fellow kept very good care of it. And I think it had probly been alot of years since it was used because the oil all over the action has turned kinda brown and sticky but wiped right of with some fresh oil on a rag.

So I guess i'll just have to get it out soon and see how it shoots. Also the guy I bought it from was nice enough to give me a 90 day garentee and said that he would give me my money back if I wasnt satisfied with it for some reason. Thats pretty good in my book.
