270 on a budget

I'm currently in the market for an entry level 270 (scope included)for coyote and deer hunting. However like most people I'm on a tight budget.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

No more than $500 with a scope is tough. I'd get a Stevens 200 or a Marlin XL7 and top it off with a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40. That should be within budget if you look around and will give you a good, reliable combo.

Add shipping and taxes and you are right at your upper budget, plus will need bases and rings.

Find a used Parker Hale 270, those are 50 times the rifle the savage is, and should keep you close to your budget with a scope.

I like those too, but at $450 plus tax and shipping, you are left with how much for a scope? IMO a decent scope is very important, and you need to budget close to $200 for a good quality entry level scope.

Keep your eyes open for a Weatherby Vanguard II package rifle or if you call the Cabelas in Edmonton they might even have some of the original Vanguard rifles left for $379...no scope on those ones but by taking $10 from each pay cheque, putting it aside and adding the leftover from your original budget you'll have enough $$$ by early June to get yourself a decent 3-9 x 40 scope.

Another good one is the Savage 111 Hunter XP package rifle.

At $500 total, you could go Axis, 111 Hunter XP, Stevens 200, 4x4, ATR100, or Marlin X7. They all shoot well and from 30,000 feet, they're practically the same. As suggested look at the vanguards at Bashaw, got one there myself. Use it for a while then put a timney trigger on it when you have more money, and then you have a super solid rig at budget prices. Japanese precision machining my friend! Why get an axis when you can have one of these!

unless you have to have a detachable mag, go with the Marlin XL7.
All the goodies and a far better stock than the Axis. The only neg.(for some) is the internal mag.
Also, if you have man hands you will want to dump the 1 piece mount that comes with it and go 2 piece

shop for a used one....I bought a scoped BSA in very good condition a couple years ago for $250....put a $200 used leopold 4x on it as an upgrade and the balvar sits on a 22 now...
just bought a parker hale scoped for 350.......there are good used rifles out there!! just have some patience.
