.270 or 30.06?

Hi. Neither is better. Both are readily available anywhere and both will kill deer/moose with no fuss. The .30-06 is more versatile, but not by much. If felt recoil is an issue, go with the .270. Find a rifle you like and toss a coin.
This time of year isn't a great time to be buying a deer/moose rifle though. The rifle deer season opens on Monday. Two weeks or so from now(after 13 Nov.) will be a good time. Lots of hunters who failed to sight in, practice, etc. will be looking to sell their rifles(a used rifle isn't a bad thing) and the assorted shops will have 'em on sale.
 
I have both... one .270 for coyotes (southern ontario) and one 30-06 for everything else. plus my 270 can be a great backup gun if theres ever a problem with the 30-06


if i had to redo it, id have gotten a 25-06 and the 30-06, but either way it works
 
I have both calibers and have shot both at 200 yards ( limit at my range) and like both. But if recoil is a factor....then the .270 is my go to gun. I do like the accuracy of the lighter .270 bullets, Hitting power "which is not as important as shot placement" definitely the heavier 30-06 bullets. Many a moose and deer have fallen to the smaller caliber. So it comes down to your choice and how the gun fits you.
 
It's kind of splitting hairs.

If I shot way more deer than moose I'd go .270.

If I shot mostly moose I'd go 30-06.

I have killed moose with both, however, as have many others.
 
I hunt deer and moose with a .270. The rifle/cartridge combo always doe a great job provided I put the bullet in the right places. I shoot 140gr Nosler AB handloads, and was very impressed at the damage a broadside hit on a moose did to the vitals.

Deer usually drop in their tracks or within sight.

The net/net of it is either will do roughly the same job and the animals will not notice the difference. Find a rifle you like and make sure it fits you well - so that you can shoot it well.
