.270 Pet loads

Accuracy? 51.5gr IMR4350 and a 150 Partition (never chrono'd this load, but it should be around 2800fps. Ran out of bullets before I got a chrono and moved back to 130gr pills):

I am currently using the 130 Interbond over 55gr IMR4350, going 3050FPS and sub-MOA. Haven't really shot a lot of groups for it though, its a hunting load so I'm saving the bullets for that.

130 gr TTSX, 56.6 gr of H-4350 , recommended distance off the lands for the barnes bullets ( can't remember off hand but got the number from some barnes literature)

Consistently shoots like the target pictured in my factory 700 with a fresh crown. No crony so no velocity numbers

I didnt personally enjoy using RL22, found that it was very temp sensitive. I reached higher than normal velocities with it while staying within max loads and found it loosened up the primer pockets too much. I suppose I couldve loaded it lower, but I wasnt seeing the accuracy in the lower ranges, and I only had 1lbs to play with. Currently trying out D4350SSC with 160gr Nosler Partitions.

The non coated 130gr Nosler Ballistic tips. IMR 4064 gets me a .270 inch 3 shot group out of a Browning Bar Safari. Can't dig them out and look at how much powder without waking someone up!! 5.51am
45 grains of IMR4064. She's up 6:54am

I've been using the following load:

Nosler brass
150gr Partition
60.5gr RL26
BR2 primer

just over 2950 fps over an Oehler 35P (2968 average IIRC) out of a T3 Superlight.

Hodgdon Brass
Nosler ABLR 150gn
60.0gn RL26
Fed 210

gave me 3228 fps, 26 inch barrel, over a LabRadar at 3600 ft. Quite a difference in velocity over your load???

57.5gn RL26
gave me 3039 fps .880 moa, ES 9, SD 4.2, 5 shots - Still developing. Just pointing out the difference in velocity.

So, I ended up with a set of .270 dies, which meant I ended up with a .270 rifle, which means I now have to reload my once fired brass. The local regiment has the use of our DND range until the end of the month, so I'm stuck doing virtual shooting until then.

Let's hear what your pet loads for the .270 are! I'm partial to 130 grain bullets, but if you've loaded the heavies tell us about it. Ditto for monolithics.

I've been using Reloder #16 for my 270 win. The powder has proven itself worthy, and then some. My goal was to achieve 3,300fps with 130 grain Nosler Accubonds. The highest velocity the gun reached was/is 3,266 fps, ES is either 10 or 11 fps. I'm in the process of developing a new load to achieve my goal with Reloder #26. I would of been out to the range already to find the results, however that damn goose hunting is addicting. Note: My rifle is full custom with a 27" barrel. Best of luck!

My .270 doesn't care what powder as long as it's a 130gr bullet at 3000 fps. Not bragging or complaining just how it is.

Yes, that's a big difference. The ABLR is a much longer bullet (but less bearing surface?) so I suspect it is taking up some extra room in the case. Plus you have an extra 4" of barrel and are 1400' higher elevation. Finally, I have found that T3's often have slow barrels.

I checked my data and the average is 2971 fps. My COAL is 3.32"

It just goes to show how important it is to measure your velocity and check actual drop at distance vs relying on what the book says.

Edit - I checked on Alliant's home page and for the 150gr Partition the max load is 60.8gr giving 3022 fps out of a 24" barrel at 3.23" COAL

3200+Fps with a 150gr pill out of the 270? That sounds spicy! Thats going about 180fps over my max book load of IMR4350 w/ a 130gr pill!

elevation above sea level effects downrange ballistics, but not muzzle velocity. Temperature can, but I find RL26 to be pretty good in "normal" hot the cold conditions (+25c down to -15c)

3200 fps 150gr 270 Win - Sounds too spicy for me, but realistically it's probably only 10k psi over max. RL26 is a real performer in the 270. Primer pocket life would tell the tale

That's a very hot load. Alliant load data is slightly over 3,000 fps with the 24" barrel. Is it possible that your rifle is receiving an extra 200 fps with 2'' extra of barrel, or your LabRadar is not accurate? Your load is between 0.2 to 0.8 of a grain less than Alliant's load data.

Standard lapse rate is 3 degrees/1000' so I figured there might be some difference to account for there, but yes, with the stability of the powder it is probably not worth mentioning.

My go to for my Baikal single shot .270 is:

145gr ELD-X
53.0gr Hybrid 100V
2919fps avg (chrono'ed vel 2 three shot strings)
0.97" 3-shot group avg (5 groups ranging from 0.85" to 1.10")

No complaints with the ELD-X bullets for accuracy or performance on whitetail and mule deer

Anyone have a pet load for .270 win with a 150 gr TSX and choices for powder of 4064, 4320(which I'm guessing is too slow burning) H4831SC, H4895 and D4895. I could have sworn I had an 8 lb jug of H5430, but am stumped as to its whereabouts.
