270 powder

I have always used 54.5 grs of IMR 4831. It's not a hot load but has always been very accurate for me. I would also look at IMR 4350, H4831 or H4831SC.

I load for a buddy's 270 and have found that IMR 4831 gives good velocity and accuracy. It's not much of a problem to get 2900 fps without signs of too much pressure out of his A-bolt with 150 Partitions.

H4831 is a classic in the 270, but I have found with the heavier bullets that Reloder 22, Reloder 25, IMR 7828, Norma MRP, and Vihtavuori N165 all work very well also. Regards, Eagleye

Depends on the bullet, H4831sc is the best all round, and I use 58grs with the 150 partitions, Hornadys and TSX. I use 57.5 with the Sierra, Corlokt and Speer. All of these combos average 2950, and there is no pressure sign:rolleyes:.

Lately I've been using IMR4350 for 130, 140 and 150 gr bullets. In the past though I've had excellent results with W760 though. W760 is a ball powder which means it's easier to work with. I can set my thrower to drop and exact charge. I still weigh every charge but save time because I seldom have to use the powder trickler

4064 is rather fast for the 270.

You want a powder about 2 steps slower. Some flavour or 4831 would be good, or RL22.

It would be good to avoid a mild primer, like the Federal. The standard Winchester (not the Magnum) is quite hot and would give you a reliable round with slow powder in cold weather.

4064 is rather fast for the 270. As bore diameters get smaller, slower powders are called for. Big bores, like 375 and 45 require quite fast powders.
