just purchased a 270 savage as my first rifle.Is a 270 a big enough caliber to hunt for moose.if it is what type of ammo should i use? any advise appreciated.
 
Congradulations on your first rifle.You chose a fine cartridge and a good rifle. Expect good accuracy. As true north stated, the 150 grain Partition is a good choice, but a 130 of the same build will do the job as well. You will need to play with it, and find which load your rifle like best. Federal offers a good selection of cheap and premium ammo and I've found their ammo to be some of the most accurate. Again, congrats, and enjoy.

practice hitting a pie plate with those partitions at different distances, and it will be "bye- bye Moosey!":rockOn: :D

killed my last moose with one. have seen many moose fall to one. a good 150gr bullet will do the job just fine.

my last moose was a one shot drop at 150yrd with a 160gr Round Nose with an MV of 2375fps.

somebody want to do the math and see what the impact stats are for that? :p

270 is LOTS for moose
 
The 270 is great, its taken down lots of game over its history. Flat and fast, very accurate. There are those who think its to small, but I'm not one of them.
 
Larry,... I load yur bullets with ya... Your rounds will stop a stegosaurus..... if placed right. Dave

Great rifle and cartridge. Choose a quality bullet such as partition/accubond/tsx/gameking and many others, and make sure you can put it where it needs to go. :)

Okay, somone's gotta say it...
Larry, your new rifle is a Savage chambered in .270 Winchester.....the .270 Savage is an old wildcat round based on the .250-3000 case.
Seriously, though....great choice! Enjoy your rifle.
