Hey guys I've been thinking in my mind if there is a possibility for a .270 Ultra Mag/Wildcat round. I think this would be ideal for a sheep hunt. Also how would this wildcat compare to a .270 WSM/WBY/WCF?

Also...is a frogs ass water tight?

The 7mmRUM hardly gains anything over the 7mmstw,so going to a .277" bullet with the RUM case will gain you even less. The RUM case is just too large to be of much advantage with the smaller bores.

The .270 RUM clearly outruns its counterpart, the .270win. Why anyone would choose the regular WIN over the RUM is beyond me.

Another twist to this predicament is, the .270 STW, or the .270-8mm. Now we're in a real mess trying to find the ultimate sheep rifle...

Buy yourself a good supply of 34" .277 blanks because you'll be rebarrelling often, depending on how long it takes to get a good load.

Why not go 6.5mm to take advantage of the better LR projectiles? Really cook the barrel.

25/06 was the choice for serious sheep guys for quite a while. Rifle weight is more important than caliber in a sheep rifle so today's light weight 270 wsm and 300 wsm are the big favorites. The only "Ultra" that should be on the mountain is in ultra light weight. LOL

Sweet F UCK thats funny #### RedLaker hahah

Well if I made this ".27-06" (because I could you know). How would it be compared to a .277 WSSM or a 7MM WBY?

I knew a guy who had one and it kept burning up barrels. Additionally the bullet selection isn't very good.

So a 7WBY with a 30" barrel is the way to go? If Im shooting 160's @ 3900 in my WBY would it be faster then 170's @ 2500 in the .277? Not that I'd want a barrel burner like this wildcat .27-06 you speak of reloading equipment must be a fortune and brass next to impossible to find...

Um, a 270 IS a 30-06 case necked down to .270:rolleyes: Nothing new there! Unless you were joking and the joke is on me!

indeed I was joking, I got caught up in all the madness. sorry about that.

I think the 30ott6 has been necked up and down and all around to everything possible. maybe in 20 years someone will neck a 270 up to 30cal and call that a wildcat. a 30-270 of sorts, more efficient, straighter powder column, more power, flatter shooting, quieter and less recoil than a 30-06. and it will have a rectangular barrel
