270 vs 270wsm

I own a 270 win and would like to own a 270 wsm, faster, hits harder but the reason I own a 270 is ammo availability and cheaper to shoot. But if you reload, go for it. Even if you don't reload and can get ammo, go for it.

well as stated ammo availability if you dont reload, yes there faster, yes there a short actioned rifle, downfall I have personaly found ammo, you have to be careful on what you shoot out of it as the speeds are up there and some bullets fail to preform well at higher speed, the nosler accubond being 1 that fails at greater speeds out of the WSM, does it kill better than a standard 270 NO, the one we have is a remmy SPS and total with a bushnel scope and box of ammo was 990 bucks, bushnel scope is now gone and replaced with a better quality scope for the recoil which is sharp compaired to a standard 270 (but not horrible either)

if you reload and want a speed demon then go with the WSM in my opinion there great if you dont reload and need acces to ammo readily then go with the 270 win :)

270 wsm is like 7mm rem mag. There's really a difference with the 270 win. But like it is said before the avalaibility and the cost is maybe a concern for you, if not: go for it it's a great caliber and it will last longer than any other wsm in term of avalaibility of ammo.

I have owned both and will tell you right now that the WSM is faster. It is not fast enough to warrant saying it hits harder than the 270 WCF, and the recoil increased as well as the muzzle blast. I could get 3000fps out of my 270 WCF with 58grs of H4831sc and a Nosler Accubond (140gr)and the Winchester ammo with the same bullet in WSM only produced 125fps more in my Kimber. The 130gr TSX will easily do 3300fps, but it will easily do 3150fps out of the .270 WCF with the same bullet. On game you are comparing Granny to MacIntosh. They both make pie, and go with ice cream.
In my opinion I'd pick the vanilla version.

I've worked with both a bit. With 24" barrels and 140 grain bullets, the 270Win will give 3050 fps, and the WSM 3100 fps. I'll take the smoother feeding 270Win thanks.

I've had a .270 and now the WSM. It shoots flat, very flat. I consistenly ring the 8" gong out at 400 yards using 130gr. Interbonds. The draw back is that my Savage 16 can only stack 2 rounds in the mag and one in the tube. But, the first shot always counts anyways ;)

I like my 270wsm, it works for me, and I would recommend it to others. shoots flat, not alot of recoil.. bullet selection could be better, but its not that bad.
I have a 270wcf as well, but use the wsm more

non of the two.
if you want a 7mm, take the Remington mag or the 7x64.
i think the wsm will go they way of the dinos'.

I don't think so. The WSMs are being chambered by practically every company, and winchester has to be probably in the top 3 of the largest ammo producers.

I have Model 70 Featherweight's in both cartridges and it's a toss up which rifle I'll grab any particular day. The .270 WCF is a great classic cartridge and the .270 WSM is the best of the WSM's in my humble opinion.

The topic is .277's not .284's. Try to stay with us...special person.

The 270WSM isn't going to disappear, even Remington loads for it now. Everyone and their dog is producing rifles for it....

. shoots flat, not alot of recoil..

what kind of rifle do you have?
I have a T3 stainless in .300WSM shooting 180gr, and when compared to the .270WSM A-Bolt.. good lord! the .270WSM shooting 150gr has wicked recoil.
62gr of powder and she kicks like a mule.

I have a savage 12fvss so its fairly heavy, and I have a B&C stock with decelerator recoil pad. so the recoil is pretty mild

my 270wcf is a husqvarna lightweight with a hard plastic butt pad and it stings a bit
