270 vs 270wsm

I have the garden variety 270 Winchester, and a pal has the WSM. I can hit whatever he can hit, and I burn less powder, put up with less recoil & muzzle blast. However, buy what floats your boat. They will both get the job done, and quite a way out there, too!! Eagleye.

Sombodies trying to tweak an already venerable round.. WSM has marginal gains .. but just the same they are gains. Economics would tell you to shoot the 270 WCF over the WSM.. but buy what you can afford and above all learn to shoot it well.
All I ever hunted with since 1970.. haven't lost anything yet.. and truly amazing results from 25 ft to 460 yards, every time I pulled the trigger.

If you have a .270 Winchester and like it then keep it and enjoy it. The advantages of the WSM aren't such that it would be worth getting one.

If you don't have the older round then the .270 WSM is a very attractive cartridge.

I've shot both and own a 270 Win...I've got 5 in the mag....the 270 WSM only has three....if your shootin' at a wack of deer on the run....I rest my case for those able to party hunt

gitrdun,
what powder was working for you with the 130gr interbonds? I tried and tried but couldnt get them to shoot well for me

still want to get them to shoot, because I have a bunch, need a good hunting load and the interbonds are so dang cheap!

I like the way my 270 wsm shoots...but she sure has a steep ramp on her to get into the chamber, realy like the looks of that SHORT, FAT AND SASSY cartridge .... I can get 3165fps with 130 tsx's out of my 22" barrel

If you are watching ounces for a ultralight gun it would be better, I think:confused: beacause of the short action..

270 win has been working fine for eons, I doubt you will kill anything any "deader" with the wsm version. My opinion on new cartrige development is that we already had everything we could ever need, they just keep making "newer and better" to make you buy more guns.:slap:

Probably not the most eloquent way of putting it, but I'd rather have access to 2 more bullets of "similar" power in my rifle(deer, bear, moose, elk won't know the difference) than a 100 fps gain. To each his own.

Like most of these caliber discussions, it's a lot of fuss over a lot of nothing.

They work well too. IRM4350 - 55.2 gr, Federal 215 primers = 2913 FPS, 5/8" group.
