The 270AI is not very common but I have seen Data that shows 140 grain bullets at 3200fps.... the 280AI will do approximately the same... the case capacity is nearly identical... the 270WSM smokes them both with less powder

Even Jack O'Connor said the .270 was not a good moose caliber.

............but he shot his first moose with one, and killed it with a single shot in thick timber.
I have read most of his books and could be wrong, but IIRC, what he actually wrote was that there are better calibers for moose.
Well, of course, the 375 H&H is a moose rifle in spades! 8)
See you in August, Kristian.

Claven2 said:BIGREDD said:...................Is the .270AI just a reaming of the .270 chamber, or would you need to set the bbl back a turn and then recut like on some AI conversions?
Claven,
To really do the job correctly, the barrel should be set back and then rechambered.
Factory 270 ammo should be a very tight or "crush" fit on an AI chamber in order to have the correct headspace for fireforming.

Ya, right

I know Ted.. I know... but sometimes you just gotta toss the hook and hope for the best...
Have you got any Data for the .270AI... I would like to hear from somebody who has first hand experience with this cartridge... very rare indeed :|
:lol:OH no ! Here we go again

In all fairness the most accurate Tikka I have seen was a 6.5x55... but I have not shot a .280... and even if it shot one hole the hole would still be bigger than .264... or .277![]()
