270 vs 30-06

Dr. Who?

Personally, i think i'd use at least a 200 grain bullet in the 30-06 for daleks.

WTF  :? :? Hang on a sec.

OK. I just found my beer. There seems to be a slight deviation from topic. I'm almost thinking by design.

And this 7.62/7.03 thing is silly. The 7.03 is generally regarded as a decent coyote rig. The '.62 as commonly known a good game getter.

Now. Lets face it they're two boring calibres that have #### all to do with this thread. But, I digress.

Back to bigBore, that Squirellzilla is still rolling around in my little bean. That is I haven't done anything with the idea yet. I do think though that this is a winner. The Americans get all the credit for big 'ol bad ass inventions like hummers, airforce bases and the grand canyon fer sure. But let me tell you this. This lil 'ol canukistan is going to launch the .458 Sqz one of these days soon

I can't believe I read the whole thing....wait...what's that sound in the attic...chewing...OH NO!, HERE THEY COME!!....AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

YES!!! I knew we could still stray off topic  The .458 SqzAI  I can see it now (squint) gracing the pages of Guns&Ammo, Handloader, ShootingTimes etc. And the fame and free hunts you will be invited on to test the hottest new round since the Remington saum series  You boys will soon be lounging in the lap of luxury...yes indeed

So this fall, I may take my .300 out for a walk in the bush and see if I can harvest one of them savage beasts. Of course it would have to be a ground shot as I do not wish to throw lead like 50 miles away. So I have partitions and regular soft points. I will hunt in the middle of the Bull Squirrel rut so they may be hard to take down with one shot. Should I use the partitions to penetrate the thick skin. Would it be more wise to shoot for a vital or head shot. I guess if shoot for the vitals, at least I could mount the head. Then you will see some pics for sure this fall. I may get the taxidermist to put the terror death look on the face to add to addrenalin rush that I had to experience.

And shortly after you invent it - I will AI it. .458sqzAI (pronounced squizeye)

That's OK, there's plenty of room for Mr. Ackley in this thread too but I will not feel undergunned with my 458 Sqz. And, I will be the first idiot to alter a cartridge only invented one year ago (500 smith and wesson) just for ####s and giggles and because it can be done. Well, and for squirrel protection too. 8)

Back to Cletus, I certainly wouldn't recommend a head shot with your 300. The very largest western reds have massive bone structure for their size and the skull is known to deflect bullets more often than not!

Wow this is still going. Thought that it may have died while I was on vacation. I always need a good laugh. But that .458sqz is pretty interesting. I'll take one once you got her in production, the squirrels around here get pretty mean.

with apologies to Willie Nelson.

Seven Spanish Mausers

There were seven Spanish Mausers
In the window of the shop.
And the price was cheap for plinkin'
At fifty bucks a pop.

When the deal was done and the smoke cleared,
You know I drove away,
With seven Spanish Mausers,
And a case of three oh eight...

Steve, please help me out here, what is the tune for that one? I tried "On the road again" and it did not seem to work.............

Hmmm. That's odd. I just clicked on it and it worked. Do you have Windows Media Player or similar? If you go to this page, you should be able to click on Seven Spanish Angels.

You could also try googling Seven Spanish Angels. Maybe there's another site that features this song. :D

Thanks Steve. Great tune, it just BEGS to be adapted to new words! 8)

My training as the Choir Master for three different rugby teams is kicking in...... heh heh heh......

The real reason the .270 does not have a leg to stand on is this caliber can not stabalize a bullet due to factory twist rate coupled with barrel length offerings, you see the diameter of the bore creates an acoustic shock wave very turblent in this diameter bore, and if the barrel had a 23.5 in stead of the std 22 inch offering you would be in buisness.
