Hey guys, I must have zoned out for a while. Steve sent me some really GREAT new medications...............
To those who asked whether we would hit twenty pages, my prognostication on 5 August was for that number. In the same time frame, BIGREDD offered his hypothesis that this thread will "never" die.
So far he is more correct than I am, but both of us spoke the truth.
Anyways, when I was out in BC and occupied very nicely with the mule deer hunt, I found out that the biggest cash crop out there is dope. BC Bud. Grass. And the main players on this thread have been from BC. I am SO GLAD that our BC CGNers are not part of that dope-smoking hippie culture out there. (They aren't, are they???)
So anyways this older lady I met in Prince George, at the Costco snack bar....forgot to mention I was with Amphibious at that point................anyways this older lady I met, she didn't have many teeth and her face looked a lot like a catcher's mitt..............and I met todbartell the same day, I might add..........anyways this older lady I met at the Costco snack bar in Prince George didn't have many teeth in fact maybe none at all, and she had a face that looked more leathery than a catcher's mitt to be honest..............I was there with bullcoon and m1garandfather by the way..............anyways this older lady with no teeth and a sunken mask for a face and looking like a snake trying to swallow a pig when she was going at that big Costco hot dog, ..............she knew todbartell quite well she said, and by the way she told me that, with the mustard and ketchup and mayo dribbling out of the sides of her toothless mouth in that shrivelled canvas that once was a face, well I could only think what todbartell might have done with that cankerous pus-filled mouth with the ancient gums in it............this is giving me bad flashbacks, guys...............anyways this hideous old hag with the evidence of Costco wieners and todbartell all running down her chin, she told me:
"Sonny, if yer gonna shoot a deer out here, use a .270."

It usually ends up in California and Texas where it is exchanged for coke from Mexico which comes for Colombia and Bolivia.

And I agree, most .270's are heavy enough that you can club a deer with them quite effectively. Those of you using the remmy 710 (anyone who'd buy a 270 probably dreams of owning one of these someday) should be careful not to loose your footing on all the bits that shake loose and fall off though.

I can see no good reason to keep a 30-06 or a .270 when you can get them both in Short Mag Versions.... live in the now....
Well I have killed exactly 1 animal with .270 and the one comment I'd make is that I was shocked at the tiny bullet holes.
One of the shots went out through the left shoulder and like I said, I was amazed at how small the hole was. I had 2 shots that were complete pass-throughs, through the lungs and there was like no blood. I attribute some of that to the lack of snow, which might have made blood more evident, but mainly to those tiny exit holes.
The .270 that I bought was purely because of the gun it was offered in, a Remington Model 700 Sendero.
For me there is no choice to make; it's the .30-06 over the .270 any day.
The .30-06 is the single best choice for the guy who only wants 1 hunting rifle. No doubt about it.
