.270 vs .308 ?

.270 as some of us are restricted to under .277 for small game. I love the .308, but I vote for .270 just to account for that darn .277 restriction.

308 gives you infinitely more bullet choices in a pretty wide range of weights especially if you hand load.

.308

and to mpsmyth, the 277 rule is a southern on terrible thing, op's in BC. Don't believe they've got a similar bit of nonsense.

If you're going to be doing much longer distance shooting the .270 would most likely yield better trajectory numbers.

Narrowed it down to a .270 or .308 for my next project rifle, Tikka T3 action and barrel, now…which calibre?? primary use will be W/T deer, the odd yote..Just need some advice between the two.
Why not just buy a T3 in either of those choices? They be good shooters with factory bbls so why the custom route?

If you are BC Coast 308 is perfect. If you intend to hunt in BC interior consider 270 it gives you better flat shooting range

270. If you ever hunt large meadows, it will shine over then 308 for trajectory. 150 gr bullets in it will shoot much flatter than a 180 in a 308, and will have somewhat more penetrating power. In the sub 338 guns, expansion is the key to killing. Due to higher velocity at any given range with similar SD bullets of similar design, the 270 will expand better than a 308 and shoot flatter for the same degree of penetration.

308 is the 270's retarded cousin. Shorter, fatter head, and a lot slower for the same job.

270 vs 3006 is a much closer discussion.

IMHO, 270 only really need 3-4 bullet weights. 130, 140, and 150. If you like shooting long range paper the 147 vld is a nice bullet, but that's a custom job...

7-08 , it wears a bow tie compared to the others that are in coveralls and a T-shirt.

Realistically it don't matter , never heard a game animal say "gee, I feel more dead from this one!"

Just to make buying components slightly easier the .308 gets the nod.

I'd go for the 270. Greater velocity for longer hunting. Plus the upside to a 308 is the short action but I believe that is a moot point as all Tikkas are long action so you don't get any benefit from a short actioned cartridge

7mm-08 remington is a sweet cartridge! Every gun nut should have one as well as a 270 and 308 win.:)
