Contrary to what has been said previously in this thread, some .308's will not stabilize a 180grn. or heavier bullet. I want to vote for the .308, however if you have one which doesn't like heavier bullets, their really isn't any advantage to using a .308.
Having a rifle that does not like heavy bullets does not mean that the twist rate is the problem. My 308 I shoot 220 grain Hornady's out of has the 1:12 twist, and it shoots 1.5MOA with those bullets. That same gun shoots rather poorly with 150/165 grain fodder. On the other hand, I have a Savage that likes 150 grain bullets fairly well, but does not shoot very well at all with heavier bullets, and it has a 1:10 twist barrel.
