.270 vs. 6.5x55

Flip a coin yes - between the 270 and the 264 Win Mag, although the latter has a slight ballistic advantage.

I have two .264WM's and I would not recommend them to a friend. One has a 22" barrel, and I can just get 2900 fps out of it with near full charge of H4831. You can do better than that with the much smaller case of the 6.5x284 (albeit with a longer barrel). The .264WM has a case that is far too big (83 grains). It just wastes powder and burns barrels. If you want a 6.5 with a bit of bite, then get a 6.5 Rem Mag or 6.5x284. They are not so easy on barrels either, but better than the .264WM.

Both will work great for blowing holes in deer, the 270 does nothing a handloaded swede won't do. I shoot 129 gr horandy's at 2900 fps in mine, vs 3000 for a 130 gr in 270 and for that you have to pack 12 more grains of powder into the 270.

Virtually identical performance, quite a bit more recoil for nothing in the 270.

Not worth owing both, get the 6.5 and sell the 270.
