Hi Guys
Getting a semi custom made up in 270 Weatherby, with a 1-8 gain twist
Looking at running Berger 170gr eol in it,
Anyone have any experience in diffrent powders with these long bullets?
I have had several weatherbys in the past and always run 7828 in them, but this is my first rebarrel, with a custom twist for the heavys,
I think that these 170's should really make the 270bee a long smacker.

Do you know if your rifle will be using the Weatherby spec reamer with 1/3" of freebore?

Here's some Quickload predictions based on a 3.4" OAL and approx .050" freebore, much less than the norm

Code:
Cartridge :[B] .270 Weath. Mag.[/B]
Bullet : .277, [B]170, Berger EliteHunt[/B] #27575
Useable Case Capaci: 72.471 grain H2O = 4.705 cm³
[B]Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.400 inch [/B]= 86.36 mm
[B]Barrel Length : 26.0 inch[/B] = 660.4 mm

Predicted Data for Indicated Charges of the Following Powders.
Matching Maximum Pressure: 62000 psi, or 427 MPa
or a maximum loading ratio or filling of 104 %

Hi todbartell, yes will be the long weatherby spec reamer,
I will double check with the smith to be 100% sure, but I believe that is what we agreed on.

Then you should be able to increase from the charge weights posted above. A friend has a 270 Wby and I did load development for him with the 150gr Nosler Accubond. Rifle is a T3 tikka so the magazine limits to 3.34" OAL, which puts the bullet about .300" off the lands! Alliant data max load was only getting us 2700 fps with RL22, ended up increasing powder charge by a lot and it's pushing them out now at 3150 fps and no high pressure signs
