270 weatherby magnum

Just purchased a gun in this calibre.
What is the most suitable bullet weight for medium to large size game?

I would use 140gr Accubond or 140Gr TSX.

In Weatherby factory ammo, I'd look to the 150 gr. Partion loads. N270150PT.

Reloads... Nosler Partions, 140 Accubonds, Barnes TSX's.

Go heavy for calibre. I've got a 7mm Weatherby mag and only shoot the 168 gr.

A quality 130gr like the TTSX will work just fine.Bullet construction is far more important than bullet weight.

I would go with a heavier bullet if you plan on shooting long range. If not then as mentioned bullet construction is more important.

I have used both 130s and 150s in my 270 Wby. Both kill big game like lightning!

I am shooting the 140 grain Hornady with a stiff charge of reloader 22 behind them with WLRM primers. Velocity is 3250 fps as fired across a chrony. Same bullet with 73.5 grains of IMR 7828 delivers 3420 fps. Accuracy is great with both charges. I have Nosler partition 150 grainers as well, but the deer and elk can't really tell the difference at point of impact as to which one knocked the legs out from under them. Play with it, and keep the charges hot. I have found that with all 7 270 Weatherbys, as i lightened up the charges, my groups increased in size. The 130 grain drops elk like the hammer of Thor. Velocity is a little over 3500 fps, and the accuracy is great.
