... at the gun club last week I finalized one of my 270 Win load recipes ...
for my Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 rifle in 270 Win with a 24" barrel at 100 meters (109 yards) I obtained the following results.
Reload Set - Whitetail Deer and Elk Load
Hornady Brass (fire formed)
Winchester Large Rifle (WLR) Primers
Nosler Partition 150 grain
IMR 7977 Powder @ 60.5 grains
>>COAL = 3.340"
>>Average velocity = 2953 fps (15 shot data set)
>>Hi velocity = 2977 fps
>>Lo velocity = 2922 fps
>>ES = 55 fps
>>SD = 16 fps
>>5 Shot Group Size = 0.75"
>>Looks promising for accuracy
>>No pressure signs
>>Outside temperature was 23 Celsius with 80% Relative Humidity
>>Slight breeze, some rain, some sun
I have high hopes for this hunting load. I will use it for this year's whitetail deer hunting season. IMR 7977 and Alliant Reloder 26 have very similar burn rates so I include it in this thread.
I would dearly love to test RL26 but I have not been able to find any to buy ... and I have been looking for over a year .....
In addition I am also currently finalizing Alliant Reloder 16 load recipes for Nosler AccuBond 130 grain and 140 grain bullets.
Both these lighter bullets should do amazing velocities with RL16 since it has a very similar burn rate to H4350. RL16 is more suited to these lighter bullets than RL26 and will produce much higher velocities. 150 grain bullets are another story ... RL26 shines in this weight category for the 270 Winchester.
I will post results here within a few weeks.
