Hey guys.

just finished my case prep on a bunch of new 270 win brass, and started searching through some manuals looking for a load using rl 22 and 140 ab. the problem i'm having is that after looking through four different manuals, one dosen't list rl22 at all, and the other three have quit the difference in the listed maximums and minimums.

for example:
sierra min 49.9 max 56.4
lyman min 52.5 max 58.5
lee min 57.8 max 60.0
nosler not listed

As you can see, the min listed in the lee manual is greater then the max listed in the sierra manual.

the reason i was wanting to use rl22 is because i have alot on hand as i use this in my 300wm, and figured it would be easier to use the same powder.

Anybody care to share their personal load of rl22 for the 140 grainers?

any help would be appreciated.
 
I haven't shot 140s from my 270 yet. I load RL22, 150gr Hornady, CCI250 with good luck. I would say you'd be perfectly safe with the max listed by LEE. I haven't checked my book on this, but I know I'm up in that same area with my 150s. Work up to it, and I'm sure you'll find something that shoots well.
 
Nosler lists H4350 with 150 grain bullets as their accuracy load, and from the first load to max it gave under one moa. Unless you are dead set on using 140's there are alternatives. Since powder is your surplus . . . are 140's in surplus too?
 
It would be better with 130 gr. bullets but I would try to work with 140's anyway. Working up to 60 should be ok, take not that RL-22 is quite temperature sensitive so note the temperature you are working up at.

Actually, Reloder 22 is about ideal in the 270 with any weight bullet from 130 grains up. I use 60 grains of it in my 700 CDL behind the 140 AB or Partition with similar results. [work up from 3 grains below to be safe] Just over 3050 in a 24 inch barrel and accuracy that is very good. Regards, Eagleye.
 
60 grs RL22 and 130gr Nosler BT did 3100 fps in a 24" Rem 700. With a 140gr Accubond I would think 58 or so grains would be about max, but every gun will be different. I wouldnt want to see much more than 3000 fps with a 140 in a 24" tube
 
Speer Manual 14 ...

with 140 gr, Speer Trophy Bonded Bear Claws ... 56.5 RL22 - 2949 Max Load

and 58.0 gr max with 130 gr. standard bullet types/ 2947
54.0 gr. max with 150's / 2769.

I find Speer's data to be fairly conservative.
