270 win. hunting bullet options ?

Its hard to pick a bad bullet for a .270. You have to really try or go to extremes to pull it off, since in the near century they've been cranking out .277s its been a good bet they were being fired out of a .270 Win.

Oh sure, you don't want to find a light varmint bullet and shoot a bison with it. Since the average guy isn't going to be popping Tatonka anyway..................Likewise, if a bullet maker brags on being able to shoot through 3 moose wearing body armor you might notice that a 100 pound doe doesn't slow it down much. Or you might if you're paying attention.

Beyond that; you can't swing a dead cat in a gun store without knocking down several fine hunting bullets for a .270. Then wander over by the cheap factory ammo and do it again.

I don't shoot a .270, but a good friend has shot more than 50 moose with his M70 .270 using 130 grain Partitions... they always go down quickly.

I am a fan of 150gr Partitions and RL26. I get good accuracy, good velocity and good performance on game.

Can't speak much from experience as I'm new to the .270, so take this for what it's worth.... I'm going with 150 SST's as a general practice/deer round and 150 partitions to complement the .300WM in moose season. This is all assuming the gun likes them.

So ok, in my early days hunting with the 20 Win, i used the 140gr accubonds on the bigger deer and they were simply my staple for hunting projectiles in fast rounds like the 270 win, where close shots at high impact can leave Cup an cores begging for a bond.......... 130gr corelokts i later used at only 2800fps with varget at the time and found they worked better at this speed and excellent at 300m...............
Im not really a fan of TTSX right but i was gifted quite a Few VOR-TX 130gr .270win factorys and during this time with the corelokts i was targetting 300m shots, so the Vortx ammo really flattened my trajectory from what i was using... Read 2800fps V 3000fps , my 300m hold became my 400m hold over. life was good.

I shot some Game, the TTSX worked fine in that Chambering.....

Since then i went to a 308, using corelokts 150gr, but soon reloaded 150gr accubonds an in the 308 they were fantastic. great killers , penetration and expansion. my favourite bullet........

However i have slipped away from Fast cartridges near 3000 fps and dropped back to the 2500-2800s with my fastest now proberly being a 7mm-08 in which i use 140gr Woodleighs simply because they are well priced and Nosler /imported stuff is high here which leads on to why i dont use TTSX because price is rediculous...an vor-tx is crazy!

So my pints are moot in terms of Canadian Dollar per projectiles however my bottom line is i believe the 130gr is where it is at for the 270 winchester, however the 140gr accubond is a great all rounder and i see where the 150s have their place in not far out shots and in bush hunting situation on bigger game......

160 grain is getting into real specific usage in my opinion, where one might only have a 270 and needs to penetrate heavy bone in heavy game..

for general hunting , look into Woodleighs.. 130gr will hold its own very well. very on par with accubonds IME.
