270 win on game performance

I have some 110-150gr bullets too, just to run the full gamut of offerings in the 6.8

h20 Volume of fired W-W brass in my Xbolt is around 76.5 grains, which is about mid way between a regular 270wcf and the WSM. Should give about 100 fps more speed than a regular 270wcf

Nothing wrong with the 270 Win...it works just fine! I prefer the 140 gr bullets in this caliber...a little better BC and SD for longer shots and better penetration than the 130's and a little flatter trajectory than the 150's.
I have also owned and hunted with 270 Wby and WSM's. They worked very well and I like them both...actually better than the Win. Did not keep them as I did not care for the rifle, or it wasn't left handed. They all were very effective on the various big game harvested with them (coyote, mountain goat, deer, moose, elk and caribou)
If I want, or need more bullet weight and diameter, and/or reach, I will jump up to my 7MM STW.
Always preferred the 280 Rem to the 270 (just my opinion and preference; my uncle was a 270 fan, my father a 30-06 fan and I wanted to have something different than either as they always fought over these) and now have another one, so do not have a 270 any more. Now that I have my LH Rem 700 in 280, I have no need or desire for a LH 270.
Mu daughter's first centerfire rifle is a 270 Win...but it came down to rifle/cartridge combination when she tried several rifles to determine what her choice would be. She has a Rem 700 Titanium in 270 Win, and shoots Federal Fusion 130 gr ammo out of it. Took her first moose and stones sheep this year with it.

Never owned a .270

Got to shoot 2 Blaser R8s .270 with 150g bullet and .300winmag with 180g bullet.

The .270 felt like a .22lr compared to the .300winmag. I shot an impala with the .300winmag and my father shot one with the .270. If I didn't love my .308 so much I'd likely own a .270win for deer

I got to see a lot of cartridges work guiding grizzly, moose, and mountain goat hunts here in BC.

Out of all of them, the most impressive were the fast ones. Very consistently the .270, 7mm Mag, .300s produced the best results, even on the biggest grizz this country’s got. Of the fast ones, the .270s the easiest to live with for many folks. The least effective were the slow and heavy ones, ala .45-70 class. I’d put .270 near the top of the heap just below the 7mm Mag with a quality bullet, and most shoot it extremely well which is a big factor.

Been on a few wild bison hunts as well, and I’d happily use the .270 with a 150gr there, that’s the one scenario I’d load it heavy. It’s one of my favourite hunting cartridges, and I came to that through watching it work rather than any sentiments about the cartridge or .277 bore. Trust me I tried for most of 20 years not to like it, in the end I couldn’t.

I have stated many times that in more than forty years of hunting and guiding, it is my distinct impression that I have seen more one shot kills from a 270 Winchester than any other chambering. No wonder either, as every 270 I have seen or used was very accurate. The recoil such that they are relatively easy to shoot, consequently folks do well with them.

I hate the 270, it works so well it makes me question my love affair with the 338 win

I did have one rodeo with it, using cheap ammo on a small bear. The “failure” could be attributed to bullet construction and following up too quickly though.

I remember the store owner in the small town in northern BC insinuating I was a little light in the loafers for buying a box of 130 grain ammo from him :D

A friend been using a 270 feather weigh for 40+ years using just what’s ever’s on sale 130gr ammo. Never fails to come home with elk moose deer.

140gr accubonds work well on elk and mule deer. One bullet recovered out of 4 shots on 4 animals. I like the 270 win except when I see big grizzly tracks, then it feels too small lol.

I had a 700 bdl ss that loved everything I loaded for it , last deer I shot was with a 90 grn ttsx if I remember and it loved 150 grn partitions I managed 2990fps and a 1/4 moa with those . Almost a 7 rem mag ..also loaded some 150grn ssts that would do 3/4 moa I never chronographd , they were too fast , blew up on a rib of a deer going in and liquified the boiler room .

That’s pretty standard for SST’s. The 180s do exactly the same thing in a 30-06 and 308.
