Kombi1976, please try and keep up. Its already been established that the WSMs are about the fastest things going. They attain this blazing speed from shorter barrels with less powder and produce less recoil while doing so.
I'm sorry, MTM. :(
How tardy of me.
I promise to be more attentive next time........ :p :p :D :D

Ya that's the problem with useless old Weatherby line up you need a 26" barrell or the whole idea is a waste of time. I mean with my 22" bbl'd 270 Weatherby I ownly get 3360 ft/s with 130 grain bullets. Chripes, might as well use a 30-30. You definitely need some kind of short magnum to get anywhere with short barrels :runaway:

Those #s are right in line with what I was getting. My last one had a 26" barrel and could launch 130s comfortably at 3450 fps. Not enough mention is made here about the importance of a good amount of muzzle blast, good on ya for the 22" barrel Salty.

To be honest though, I don't think Salty is making an effort. :(
Clearly he needs to get out the ol' hacksaw and cut another 4" off to create that truly wonderful muzzle blast.... :p :D

You know what dude, you got me thinking now - never mind 4" off the Weatherby, how about a 16" barreled brush buster, with double duty at halloween events :D

Anybody read that RIFLE magazine wiht the test conducted wiht the 30-06 wiht some crazy long barrel 36" or somehting?

CHopped down one inch at a time, and didn't start seeing relaly large velocity drop ofs until it got shorter than 18" or so....

It really is truly ridiculous how much emphasis some people put on bbl length with standard cartridges.
I'm ready to believe that big capacity cases can use a longer bbl well but you're deluding yourself if you think a 26" bbl on a 308 will make it 100fps faster than a 22" bbl.
The attraction of long bbls to target shooters is the greater accuracy they afford.

Even with Magnums. The difference between a slow or fast barrel can make more difference than 2" of barrel. Go with what feels best. Obviously something way overbore should perform better with more barrel, but I'll take handleing over 50-80 fps every time.

Both of these carteiges are very boring 270 wsm vs.270 win. Yawnnn Buy a 7x57 or a 6.5 x55 and have the built in cool factor. > Big Red. Jack Rabbits with a 270wsm? How big do they get in Peterbourgh? Are they called Harvey?
