I love the 270Win and 270WSM. All of my 270s have a 9" twist. Although my 270WSM is loaded with 140 Accubonds, I have used the Plaine-Jane, Federal Powershock 130s in my 270Win to drop everything from snowshoes to elk, moose, and bear. The simple and inexpensive pointed soft-points group tight cloverleafs and drop anything at 25 or 500 metres.

I use 130gr Hornady Interbonds in my 270. Only shot one bear with 'em (I don't hunt with that rifle anymore), but it came out the other side and left a blood trail a blind man could follow. Bear went maybe 10 yards before piling up.
Compared to how much money I spend on other things to go hunting, bullets are stupid cheap. I'd rather spend the extra and have something I know will not blow up on a shoulder and will penetrate deep enough to hit the vitals on presentations that aren't perfect.

What say you about the .22 Hornet
No experience with the eld , but when I had the 270 Mountain Rifle it really enjoyed the Sierra 140 grn bullets with 4064 IMR.
Sold that gun to a buddy (sellers remorse) and he has shot 10 Moose in the last 15 years with it, all no more than a follow up shot to finish them off from 80 yrds to 150 yrds.
5 grains more in bullet weight might be the ticket you are looking for if powder and bullets are available.

Re ELD-M and ELD-X bullets, I saw this video from Ultimate Reloader that might be of interest to those considering Hornady ELD bullets. In it, they compare the 6.5mm 140 ELD-M and 6.5mm 143 ELD-X bullets fired at typical 6.5x55 or 6.5 CM velocity into ballistic gel. The question posed was whether it is reasonable to use target bullets for hunting.

According to the JBM Ballistics Stability calculator, the Nosler 150-gr. Accubond Long Range should stabilize easily in a 10-twist barrel.

It's all well and good to try to reinvent the wheel, but in this case, that wouldn't be my first, or even twentieth, pick for moose in a 270.
Not this Fudd ...... I have two kinds of moose bullets on hand if ever drawn again for a local hunt.

I agree. Why use a highly frangible bullet when there are so many better choices out there? Dave.

That's a pretty violent impact for a bullet like that. Not saying the performance isn't terrible, it definitely was, but that likely explains the better results on the follow up shot. Most bullets don't like those kind of impact speeds.
