I have been shooting 130 gr Hornady GMX out of my 270 Winchester and find it great.
My current plan was to reload with H4831.
Recently I aquired a couple of pounds of Superformance powder at very good price, free.
I was hoping to duplicate the results with the Superformance and reloading my own but cannot find very much data on it.
I called Hodgdon about possibly getting data but they do not have any they wish to disclose since it does not exceed the 75'/sec increase in velocity requirement in 270 Winchester.
The burn rate of this is very close to H4831 and W780 which are both recommended for 270 Winchester.
I was just wondering if anyone has worked with the combination and what results they have achieved.

I have called to no avail. Apparently the loaded ammo that sells with Superformance powder is blended to get the speed increases and the powder thats out there for sale ( I bought some ) is very limited to what you can load to. I would suggest you start low at a rate of a powder thats close to the same burn rate and work up to see if your gun likes it or not. Please report on any results you get and I will do the same when I try several loads myself. Maybe we can work out some decent rounds.

Factory superformance loads are not using the same powder that we see on the shelves, they blend powders for each caliber specific to that load. The powder we buy for reloading, although a decent powder, is not what it used by hornady for their commercial loads.

I have no doubt that factory ammunition is a blend of powders to give the optimum performance but very little data is being published on Superformance powder. Is it better or worse than H4831? If it is identical then in my opinion I would want to use it rather than H4831 since it is spherical and not extruded and thus easier to meter. Would be nice for the consumer to have the choice to decide. Instead all that they have done is posted partial information and thus keep us wondering. I agree with HIGHRPM perhaps the two of us can combine energies and come up with a load which we will be able to judge for ourselves. Keep in touch HIGHRPM.
