270 WSM for moose

Thanks guys, but the reason I asked this was that I have seen what each one of the above bullets do to deer.

Accubounds@140gn would blow a deer apart no matter what range, I hit them at 40 yards and also at 275 yards and I got the same impact on both deer, just way to much devisation after the hit.

I changed to
Ballistic SilverTip @ 150gn and found they would work great on the impact on deer no matter what range.

Now the way the Accubounds worked I could very well see if they made it through the rib cage what kind of damage they would do in the boiler room on a moose. I just was not sure if that 140 gn bullet would stay togeather on the impact to make the 4 inches of hide, skin, ribs to the Old work engine on a moose.

I think you all have set my mind and thanks for your input...

Accubonds get my vote too. Last season my wife got her first bull moose @ 325m with her 270WSM (Factory ammo WS). Both shots were double lung complete pass thru penetration-she only needed the one but I did not want the bul to make it to the timber. Same results on elk, moose, deer, bears over the past couple seasons-all one shot kills. Very impressed with this caliber and bullet combo.

I just fine tuned my reloads for MY 270WSM rifle for my mulie hunt starting tommorrow thats getting videoed by Mossy Oak film crew, and may even take it to moose camp the following week and leave my 300WM at home (I use 180gr Accubonds inmy 300WM).

If shooting factory ammo and you want 150gr bullets, try the new Winchester Supreme Elites XP3 ammo. I sure would like to try this for reloads.

I would go with the 150 just because it's a bit bigger punch and would keep my distance less than 150 yards.

What is punch? I hear this term alot, but no one seems to want to answer my question.

Ballistic Tips may work on Ontario calf moose, they probably only average 300 lbs live weight

Truth be told, the average calf on the hook (no legs fur etc, and quartered) has been between 201, and 206 lbs on the hook. Add guts fur, legs, and head, your closer to 350-400 lbs.

How about the 3 bulls and about 4 cows that have fell to that combination?
Granted, I have never seen him take a moster bull, but there is meat on the table for the guys every year...

Hmm...I've used the same bullets in my .270Win @ 2936fps (chronied handloads) on three mature whitetail bucks at ranges from 45 yards to 418 yards and have had perfect preformance with very little meat loss. My new .270WSM will be here later this week and my plan is to use the 130gr TSX if the barrel likes the lighter bullets.

140 Partition, 150 Partition or 130 TSX. 'Nuff said. I have seen too erratic results from Ballistic Tip to trust them to penetrate, especially if a presentation is less than ideal. Regards, Eagleye.

I misread Adrian's post... A ballistic silvertip is different than a winchester silver tip... And your right, a ballistic silvertip is just a coated Ballistic tip...
But... you really think that on a game animal there would be a discernable difference between a 150 gr Ballistic tip, and a 140 gr accubond? Not likely, and moose arent made of wet newspaper. Both will kill very well, so shoot whatever your gun likes best.
I'll be sure to tell a good friend who has shot about 10 moose with a 139 gr ballistic tip's out of a 7mm rem mag that they wont kill a moose.

There's a big differance between ballistic tips and accubonds. Ballistic tips are way to fragile to use on moose. Get unlucky and hit a shoulder blade and see what happens to you ballistic tips. Stick with the accubon-you won't regret it.
