I have been offered a deal on a .270wsm remington 710 (i think it's 710)

For hunting deer and target shooting for fun.

Thanks.

The cartridge is fine for your stated purpose, but unless the guy is paying you to take the rifle I'd shy away from a 710, or 770.

And I'm a Remington guy.....

That's what I thought... I remember seeing somewhere that 710,770 was cheap.

But the caliber looks really interesting though!

I've never heard of a 710 (or 770) in 270 wsm. And it is unlikely that it was rebarrelled, due to the pressed barrels of the 710.

I think you're either talking about a "normal" .270 win or not a 710.

The WSM is a very good caliber. The 710 is pretty much regarded as the worst bolt action ever made...

Think .270 + a couple hundred fps. in a short action.
My 7mm WSM [only 0.007" difference] shoots 150 gr bullets @ 3100 to 3150 fps chronied.

Ballistically speaking... take what you know about the 7 Rem Mag, and that's what the .270 WSM will do [more or less]. The difference is that the 270 WSM offers less selection in bullet weight, fits in a short action, and the ammo costs a bit more.

Or, take what you know about the .270 WCF... Make the bullets go a couple hundred fps faster, increase the recoil a bit, take at least 1 shell out of the magazine [they're fat, so usually only 3 in the mag] put it in a short action, and make the shells cost more than double.

That is the .270 WSM

I love my Winchester Model 70 LH 270WSM. I wanted something a little different but still something that factory ammo is relatively easy to find. Ammo is a little more costly but certainly not double...at least not around here. In my area factory ammo is $5-$10 more per box which is minimal considering I don't use this as my plinking riffle and I only go through a couple boxes a year. It only holds three shells but never needed more than one:)

This should be a sticky. In fact, all the compare threads should have their own forum called, "Caliber Comparisons" or the "CC" forums. All you would have to do is search your caliber and sift through the threads to find the caliber you want to compare. It would certainly curtail the "how does this compare to that" that seem to appear more frequently around this time of year.

Hey, I think I'm onto something..Mods? Admins? Owners? :D
