270 wsm scope size?

Hey guys I'm looking for some scope size recommendation for a Winchester model 70 all weather ss rifle chambered in 270 wsm. This rifle will be used for white tail hunting.

Budget and expected shooting ranges would help, but generally a 3-9x40 is plenty of scope for most hunting rifles.

Just go with a red dot, it shoots flat enough to not need magnification.....

I've got a VX3 4.5-14 with B&C reticle on mine.

Kind of seems waste not to have a ballistic reticle in a scope on a 270WSM that's for sure. In the right hands they are capable of some fairly long range shots.

Anything over 9x is too much magnification with too little field of view. It's more about the size and weight of a scope on a hunting rifle anyway. The higher the magnification, the smaller the field of view will be and the heavier the scope.

You realize you can dial them down right? High magnification is king at long range.....you don't need much field of view at 500 yards...lol

Nikon Monarch 3 4-16x42mm, good glass, multiple reticles to chose from, will get you out to 400m and beyond no prob and costs less than $500 before shipping. Widely available at most gun stores in Canada.
