I have been wondering for quite a while if there is a whole lot of diffrence between a .270Win. and a .270WSM, are there any benefits with going with the WSM?

On paper and in theory there are advantages to the WSM version. In real life hunting, I don't think one would be able to tell which one was being used by any differences in effects on game.

Well the reason i ask is im thinking about buying a new rifle in .270Win. but my uncle said i should get it in .270WSM like his because there alot better, i just want to know if this is true, or if i would be better off sticking with my original decision and go with the .270Win.

.270 Win has way more factory ammo available and rifle options to buy. As for how they work on animals,as far as you can confidently shoot the 270 Win will drop pretty much anything including moose and elk.

Nothing wrong with the WSM aside from those options limiting what you can buy.

If you reload then even better.

Ask any of the new generation ballistics hair-splitting experts; compared to the AWESOME .270WSM, the .270Win has too much recoil, not enough velocity and is chambered in rifles that the average man cannot carry more than 100 yards.

You should obviously get the superior .270WSM and magically solve all of the obvious deficiencies of the .270Win.

And of course, you can get .270WSM ammo anywhere, while nobody stocks the obsolete .270Win.

Blah, blah, blah...

Tell your uncle it's not "a lot" better. It does better the 270Win in velocity, but only by a bit and for hunting in this part of the world you probably won't ever need that advantage.

.

So basicly buy the rifle i want in the .270Win, because its not worth picking a totaly diffrent riifle just to get the 270WSM. . . thanks guys!

It's the upated 270Win vs 280 debate.

.

Quite a few 'things' I've never heard of previously:redface:, obviously 7SAUM is one of 'them'. If it's a 280 Remington/7mm Express Remington, why would anyone call it by another name like 7SAUM,;) unless somewhere, there was some degree of shame attached to it?? :stirthepot2::p7SAUM sounds like a missle battery around Hanoi.

but what is a 7SAUM?
It's Remington's 7mm Short Action Ultra Magnum. Jeez, have you guys been living under a rock? Maybe it's time for Remington to reintroduce their SAUM line again and get all the newbies buying them with some slick advertising  Sure worked for Winchester's WSM's didn't it?

Thank you. That's all I wanted to know. Last night thumbing through the last reloading manual I picked up, the Lyman 49th, I spotted that. As I said previously, there are a lot of things I hadn't heard of and that was one.
