.270win vs .308win

The question of whether .270 is more or less accurate than .308 is a function of the quality of rifle and ammunition (and shooter, of course). Ballistic co-efficiency is slightly better for the .270 in match bullets, and the velocity of the .270 is higher. Higher velocity and BC usually translates into better downrange accuracy for the .270 in windage conditions, especially if a match bullet with higher BC is used. I have noted with some amusement that those municipalities which limit caliber to .270 or less do so on the mistaken notion that .270 is less dangerous than .308 when in fact the .270 is more likely to fly further than the .308 on a missed target.

All berger bullets are match grade, including their hunting bullets. It's not like hunting with some other brands of "match" bullets which aren't suited to use on game.

Thought I'd better explain that for those who aren't just being a smart@$$ like Toddie. ;)

I'm a big fan of the 270 as a hunting rifle, especially for open country deer hunting. But if I was looking for a rifle for mainly target use, I'd pick the 308 out of the two just because you have more bullet choices.
