Did some tests with Sierra's 150gr SPBT, had great results with IMR7828, less than 1 moa.
When moose hunting, the range I could shoot varies a lot, 2 years ago, I had to make a 422yards shot with my 300WSM and the 180gr Accubond did the job. The year before that, the young buck was a 30yards, same rifle, same load, no prob.
So if I have to make a 30y shot with the 270WSM, will the conventional 150gr Sierra will hold up to 270WSM velocity?
Any of you have experience with that bullet vs moose in your 270WSM?

I have hunted a lot with my 270wsm and personally I would be hesitant to use the softer conventional bullets like a sierra SPBT. Nothing wrong with the bullet obviously, and they do shoot great, but you are generating enough velocity that if you hit large bone at short range, it is very conceivable that you would have dramatic bullet failure (maybe not with a deer, but moose and elk for sure) Of course we all aim to miss those large dense bones but sometimes you flinch, sometimes you have no choice, and sometimes you want to make sure the animal gets anchored. Personally I have had tremendous results with both 130gr Barnes TTSX and 140gr Accubonds, with the slight edge in accuracy (for me anyways) with the Accubonds but the TTSX penetrate fantastically...in fact I've never recovered one, even when hitting front shoulders, so that should tell you something. You can certainly hunt with your Sierra's but personally I would feel more comfortable shooting one of the bullets I mentioned. Good luck, that my friend, is an amazing all around rifle calibre, outstanding for everything this side of a grizz, no matter what the wizzum haters might have to say :)
 
I have only shot one moose with my 270 Win., it was a big bull, about 75 yds., 130 gr Nosler Partition side-on just behind the shoulder, the bullet stopped under the skin on the far side after breaking ribs on both sides. The animal did not move more than 5 yds from where it was hit.

The Wife(tm) hunts with a 270 WSM, and I load the 130 grain Nosler AccuBond's for her. She shot a sharply quartering-to deer this year at near point-blank range (20 yards; about 3,370FPS impact velocity, according to my chronograph and some calculations). The bullet went in through the front, and exited through a rear hindquarter, broke lots of bones on the way through. I suppose I'd agree that the 140 grain version is a bit better insurance for elk/moose sized stuff, but any bullet that will survive that kind of impact velocity, and stilll go stem to stern on a whitetail, should surely survive a broadside smack (bones or no) on a moose/elk (IMHO).

Yep, I was thinking to get a box of 140gr Accubond to give them a try this summer.

my first choice would be the Barnes 140gr TSX, 2nd choice would be 150gr Nosler Partition if the Barnes didn't shoot up to par
